..:Official 2008 NL Central Thread:..Congratulations Chicago Cubs...:

i hope he proves me wrong but i am very unhappy about the Edmonds signing. He cant play defense anymore, he cant bat anymore and i sincerely doubt that he willbe all that motivated to play well for a cubs fanbase that will only see him as a constant reminder of the Cards. A fanbase that will more than likely boo himeven if he gets a hit.
I seriously dont understand the move. why in the world would you want to take away playing time from Johnson? I can understand giving Pie everyday PT in theminors, he still needs lots of at bats. Johnson has been playing so well i would be content with letting him stay out there, especially since Edmonds will notbe an upgrade defensively.
I personally think he will be gone by the trade deadline. he will probably get tossed in with a deal for a starting pitcher, at least i hope.

SORIANO IS STARTING A RIP. Alfonso on a hot streak is as scary as any player in the majors. i would love to see the cubs batting the pitcher in the 8 hole soAlfy will see pitches with ducks on the pond.

Good win tonight for the Cubbies. Nice to see us get to peavy earlt and often. Also nice to see Lilly have a good outing. 11 K's tonight. hopefully he iswarming up.

Flint grats on the pick up man. I bought a place almost 3 years ago 2 hours south of chicago. it felt good to buy, wish it was closer to wrigley though. LOL.

LOL ANOTHER BLOWN SAVE

Wow.....so i guess Mota blew the save this time huh?? I say you guys try to get Turnbow back......or maybe good 'ol Bob Wickman...lol

The Reds blew a 6 run lead in the 9th , but manages to win 7-6.

Yeah Mota blew it. Mota had been lights out pretty much all season too. Turnbow had a 15.63 era in 8 games with us this year so I think we'll keep him inTriple A.

Whew close call tonight.

Reds blew the lead, and got it back!

What a great way to get your first Major League hit!

So will Edmonds be the 2008 version of Gary Gaetti, or the reincarnation of Phil Nevin?

We'll find out soon.

I think the whole Cub Nation is hoping for the Gaetti version. Cuz Nevinsucked #$#@!

Lance Berkman is RED HOT.
I find it interesting that the Giants aren't even pitching to him with runners in scoring position.
They are intentionally walking him.....

True....not a big risk at all. Honestly...he is and will always be a Cardinal, thats what eats at me the most. If he doesnt hit, he's gone in a coupleweeks.

I don't think we need him though. Felix and Reed and carry the load at CF.

Hes the hottest player in baseball. his numbers would be even better if they did pitch to him. its helping Miggy because he is getting pitches to hitcause they dont want lance up at all

Berkman is having a phenomenal year so far. good for him. I am not worried about it because i dont see the Rockettes as a threat.

It is Maddux vs. Dempster today. I am hoping to see some of the game. I love to get a chance to watch the best pitcher of our time throw baseballs at biglumbering behemoths.
Braun agrees to 7-year deal
The Milwaukee Brewers will announce this morning that leftfielder Ryan Braun has agreed to a seven-year contract extensionthat will be a record in terms of both length and money for the team and the industry.

The Brewers have called a 10 a.m. news conference at Miller Park to make "a major baseball announcement." Braun's agent, Nez Balelo, wascontacted en route to Milwaukee this morning but said he could reveal no details prior to the club's announcement.

I wonder how much, I'm guessing 80-90 million.

How much do you give a guy then who has 43 homers and 126 rbis in 152 career games? Not to mention he's going to be a beastly left fielder with a rocketarm.

^ Congrats on signing Braun. We seeing something here? Kazmir and Longoria lock up big deals with the Rays. Braun signing. These are the"smaller" markets and these are all players five years ago that you just knew would be Yankees eventually.

Now they're signing with their original teams. Maybe things are turningaround a little huh.

It's official, Soriano is

Hopefully we can get another one today.

If that kid puts up anywhere the kind of numbers I think he will, $45 million is a freakin' steal. Nice job Brewers, that sucks.

Yeah Z doesn't care for Edmonds too much, I think it was back in 03 where Jimmy hit one out and admired it a long time, Z started screaming at him as hetrotted around the bases. He struck out Jimmy his next time up and wagged his finger at him, next time around Rolen hits a HR off Z, Z plunks Jimmy and getsejected. Yeah, haha this will be interesting.

Someone asked Z about the signing, his response? "No comment." Jimmy bout to get the Barrett treatment

^^^
LOL @ the Barret treatment. Edmonds grounded into a double play today. it happens, i am still mad at him though. The bottom line is if he plays great i willcheer for him, if he doesn't i will buy a derogatory t shirt about him and wear it, alot.

Lou has got to find a way to keep Cedeno in the lineup, the kid is just playing great baseball.

EDIT:
Dempster knows the Lord helps those who help themselves.

Bum. He's lucky Demp is dealin' today. I'm telling you., Jimmy bout to become the next Latroy Hawkins. This signing was stupid.

i feel like signing him was bad for everyone. he needs to just retire, the Cubs dont need him. It was unnecessary. i hope he proves me wrong.

Dempster is playing so damm good. It is blowing my mind. new career high in strike outs.

GREAT game from Demp.
eek.gif

How does that dude Bard go up there, last chance of the game and watch 5 pitches without swinging?
smh.gif

Wood, 2 batters, 2K's save.
pimp.gif

I was a little bit skeptical of Pinella putting Wood instead of Marmol, considering how many pitches Wood thrown last night. But oh well, Lou pulled the rightstrings, made all the right moves. I just wished Dempster could've gotten the CG, but his pitch count was already high. Oh well, in time, he will get itthis season.

I didn't see Edmonds first hit, but I listened to when Edmonds struck out with the bases loaded.
smh.gif
Always a Cardinal first, I tell you. He was probably looking at the centerfield scoreboard at his AB and saw that his old team and buddies were struggling against the Pirates. And he decided to help his old team out.
smh.gif
Way to go Edmonds, Hendry. Horrible pickup by the GM. Just horrible.
smh.gif

Yeah I hate Edmonds, and will continue to hate him. Has Cardinal blood running through his veins.
Jimmy bout to become the next Latroy Hawkins.
more like the Mel Rojas, and/or Todd Hundley.
