The above article says that Chamakh to Arsenal is pretty much a done deal.

The Daily Mail also reports that Barca are prepared to pay 50 million pounds for Fabregas in the summer. As fantastic of a player as he is (the best in the Premiership at his position IMO and top 5 in the world), I dont think any player is worth that kind of money. I'd sell him and reinforce the entire squad. We have a lot of 'good' players but only a handful of really good players that could start on any club in the world. If it's true that the Chamakh signing is a done deal and that Arsenal will sell Fabregas then I'd use the money at the following positions:

-CM...Abou Diaby is too inconsistent, Denilson is not good enough
-CB...Gallas looks to be on his way out now that his contract is about to expire
-CB...we need a 3rd CB to fill in for suspended/injured players
-GK...Almunia sucks. Period.

It'd be hilarious and yet very frustrating to see Wenger make 50 million pounds off of Fabregas' sale and then spend 6 million of it on 13-year-olds

Then again, keeping a world class player like Fabregas and building around him would be a good decision as well. You dont see Man Utd listening to offers for Rooney or Barcelona thinking about selling Messi...teams that want to win keep their best players especially when they are in the primes of their careers. Perhaps Arsenal should dig into their pockets and spend money to make the team stronger and have Fabregas lead it. Either way I dont think they can go wrong.

Wenger future hinges on capacity for success

Arsene Wenger has revealed that his future at Arsenal is dependent on the squad being able to challenge for major honours, with the Frenchman insistsing he will assess his current crop's chances of competing before committing to a new deal at Emirates Stadium.

Wenger's current contract runs until 2011, with the Arsenal hierarchy understandably keen to tie him down to a new long-term deal. The Gunners chief has resisted the overtures of Real Madrid on several occasions and has made no secret of his desire to stay at the club, though he wants to wait until the summer before resuming talks about an extension.

"At the moment I want to finish as well as I can this year and then we can talk about it," Wenger said. "It's important for this generation to win, both this year and after we will see next year. But I still think we can win this year.

"My own personal future will depend on the capacity to win trophies, but as well to feel that this team is improving year after year because we are still very, very young."

It has been five years since Arsenal last won a trophy and the Gunners have their work cut out to end their drought this season, though they are still in the Premier League title hunt and could reach the Champions League semi-finals if they beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp on Tuesday.

Asked whether he would consider leaving Arsenal as a work in progress, he replied: "Well, ideally no, but at the moment my focus is more short term - to see that we finish well, and that we go to Barcelona and have a good chance of qualifying."

He isn't going anywhere. He's probably trying to pressure the Arsenal board into spending more money. I dont think that Wenger is cheap but he's limited by the team's management. Arsenal are a bit more fiscally responsible than most big clubs in Europe and spending big money on players doesnt make much business sense for them when the club can still compete in the Premiership and in Europe every single year despite having a relatively inexpensive squad.

I read that about Chamakh too, can't wait for him to arrive. Will buy get him on my home kit for next year. I don't think Fab will go anywhere either, but if he did I'd kind of be depressed. I'd rather he do go to Barca than anywhere else seeing they're my 2nd favorite team. I know 50 million is alot of dough and we'd be able to buy a defender, gk, etc. We also have to remember we signed Samuel Galindo and Wellington Silva, both will be on the squad next season, Wellington in January though. Galindo is an attacking midfielder and very tall and good in the air and Wellington is a beast too, try looking up clips of him at Fluminese. He definitely looks like he'll fit in nicely with our system. And yeah Wenger I don't think is cheap, I think the board is a little cheap though, they only give him like 20-30 million every summer to spend when Utd, Chelsea, etc get like 50-60+ million. I do think Wenger does make the most of his signatures. Nasri was 11 million and will be world class and Vermaelen was 10 million and could easily be sold for 25 million the way he's played this season. I just hope the board gives Wenger more money to sign whatever type of player he wants to. I think we should get Chamakh and Remy and send Bendtner out on loan.

Adebayor was really unpolished when he joined Arsenal and it took him 1.5 seasons before he became acclimated to the English game. Chamakh right now is better than Adebayor when he first came to England. Give Chamakh some service and he should be good for 15-goals a season for Arsenal.

from a neutral's point of view,i hope they can spend big and consistently compete for the title every season...
the team is capable of producing some of the most breathtaking football, sometimes even trying to walk the ball into the net...

Great news fellow Gunners...

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie could make a surprise return to the Gunners squad for Wednesday's crucial trip to Tottenham, BBC Sport understands.

The 26-year-old Dutchman scored eight goals in 11 games before rupturing ankle ligaments during the Netherlands' friendly against Italy last November.

In Van Persie's absence Arsenal have scored only 1.77 goals per league game, as opposed to 3.26 before his injury.

Arsenal are three points behind leaders Chelsea with five games left.

And with the Blues hosting Bolton at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, Arsene Wenger's men could be six points adrift by the time they kick off against Spurs at White Hart Lane.

Chelsea also benefit from a far superior goal difference, so anything other that a victory would deal the Gunners' title aspirations a potentially fatal blow.

Three points would keep Arsenal in realistic contention and see them leapfrog Manchester United into second place.

That may encourage Wenger to name Van Persie in his injury-ravaged squad, who play their first match since being knocked out of the Champions League by Barcelona last Tuesday.

The Dutchman, who scored twice in Arsenal's 3-0 win against Spurs early this season, has missed 31 games in all competitions but his rehabilitation went according to plan and Wenger was impressed by the physical condition he was in on returning from the Netherlands.

Van Persie maintained his fitness through swimming and gym work and, once the ankle had completely healed, he began training with amateur side AFC Amsterdam.

He has now been doing ball work for several weeks and reportedly stunned onlookers by completing a daily work-out in which he would shoot with full force and perform sprinting drills.

"He is physically, fitness-wise, in a good shape," said Gunners boss Wenger on 25 March.

"So we have just to get him back to full team fitness - that will take two to three weeks maximum.

"I would say two weeks but after that when you start to play you are not at your best. You have to get a few games to get back to your best."

Club physio Colin Lewin recently told the Arsenal website that Van Persie - Arsenal's joint third-highest scorer in the league this season - would be joining the first-team squad for full training "imminently".

Almunia is $$%%*# crap...it was a great strike but it could've easily been stopped had Almunia not been ball watching after his punch.

Arsenal are playing really poorly right now and things arent looking too good.

The holding play hasn't been bad, but there is no cutting edge in the final third. This will either end 1-0 Spurs or 3-1 Arsenal. Im just counting down until about the 70th when hopefully we'll see RVP.

Come on now dude watch the replay he was trying to get back in goal and he ran into one of our own players. But really what more could have really been done with that shot? It was one hell of a volley nothing more. We need better finishing, but I hope we come back and take this.

That was just bad defence, Sagna playing him onside and Silvestre falling asleep. Congrats on beating our B team, have fun in the Europa League next year.

Arsenal are missing literally their very best players...Gallas, Vermalen, Song, Fabregas, Arshavin, van Persie.

I've been very critical of Arsenal for not having enough depth but there's nothing you can do when you're missing your 2 best defenders, 2 best midfielders and 2 best forwards.

Oh well...I didnt expect us to win anything at all this season but there are absolutely no excuses next season. Wenger's 5-year-plan has come and gone without desired results. It's time to switch things up.

My thoughts on the match:
1. Great game for Gomes, saved them with multiple great saves.
2. RVP, thank god he's back. 20 minutes of him was better than anything else on the pitch.
3. The turning point was Vermaelen's injury. Silvestre makes Sol Campbell look like the greatest center back in the world.
4. There wasn't much Almunia was going to do with that first goal, can't fault him for the second either, that was on Silvestre/Sagna.
5. Good luck qualifying for Europe, you still have to play Chelsea, United and City.
