Knicks 2010 Summer League Roster
July 9th, 2010 by Mike Kurylo

Due to the Knicks involvement with NBA free agency, it’s unclear how many roster spots are open. Chandler, Curry, Douglas, Gallo, Walker and Stoudemire along with recently acquired Anthony Randolph, Ronny Turiaf and Kelenna Azubuike make 9. If you add their draft picks Fields, Rautins, and Jordan that makes 12. Potentially the team might sign a few more free agents and could still bring back Barron, Bender, Giddens, or House. That doesn’t make for a lot of roster spots open. But enough that a few guys could make the team.

Already On the Roster

Toney Douglas, PG – Last year his summer league shooting was awful, but that turned out fine during the regular season. The big question for this year is can he run the offense? We know D’Antoni’s distaste for combo guards masquerading as point guards, and truthfully he could have done better setting up his teammates. This is a bit more critical now with the addition of Stoudemire, since he is so dangerous in the pick & roll.

Bill Walker, GF – A good NBA player should find success in the summer league, and that’s what I expect from Walker. But more important than just scoring is that Walker rounds out his game. He needs to rebound more and play better defense. If he becomes a more complete player he could challenge for a starting spot, either by pushing Chandler to the bench or by forcing D’Antoni to go small with Amar’e at center.

Drafted, But Not Guaranteed

Landry Fields, SF – Reading his scouting report, I’m most excited to see Fields. NBADraft.Net has 192 words on his strengths and only 50 on his weaknesses. He’s got a great vertical leap (39′), but is a bit on the skinny side. The most important signs are how his defense, rebounding, and ability to get to the free throw line translate at this level. If he does make the Knicks roster, his three point shooting and free throw percentage have to improve.

Andy Rautins, SG – Rautins’ value lies in his shooting, so it’s important to note how he scores. Other than just hitting open threes, what else can he do? Will he be able to beat his man off the dribble? How much separation does he need to get his shot off? But his scoring isn’t the only concern. Is he too undersized/nonathletic to play the shooting guard? How bad is his propensity to make the “too cute

Where are the good to great relatively young centers in the NBA? Specifically some that would fit in D'antoni's system?

That has been on my mind since we already know what type of pg we need. In the East were going to need some good quality big bodies to at least be a presence in the paint.

I don't think even highly doubt we're getting Yao although it'd be great for him and us. So ever since Dirk resigned I been unable to think of anyone. Go looking overseas possibly?

Dear Knicks Fans,
I am now on a self-imposed ban. I just got back from the front of MSG, hating along as other Knicks fans were disgusted by one of the STUPIDEST decision in modern sports history. A man who has "CHOSEN 1" tattoed on his back now must augment it with "CHOSEN 1/3rd". I truly feel sorry for Knicks fans because NY would have been a better destination than NY for this idiot. He could still have become immortal. Now he will never be what he should have become. He mapped out a destiny only to turn his back when the going got tough. This is one of the most despicable decisions in sports history. This man will never be considered one of the GOAT's. Wade will always be better than LeBron.

I just want to say I had fun chopping it up with Proshares, his friend, and other Knicks fans in the bar and in front of MSG. I will see you guys either on Saturdays at LaGuardia or in September. I know you guys will recover from this because yall have so much more loyalty than this man. Wish you guys the best, except against my Bulls.

There's a reason people are so high on players like Lopez and Noah, young and promising centers are a dying breed.. and people aren't looking to give them away.

I'm interested in seeing how Randolph fits in, I've seen some recent video/pictures of him and he looks bigger, I wouldn't be surprised to see him play some center for us this year.

I'd be fine with her at the point.

Gives me more incentive to watch.
