carson palmer is a good qb stuck in a horrible situation.  a change of scenery would do him a ton of good and a decent qb would make this 49er team actually look like a respectable team. if carson palmer is able to escape ohio, i think he'll revive his career wherever he goes.

. All part of there play to provide poor competition to boost Smith confidence. I see right through there @+#**@$+.
Cedric Ceballos - I agree 100%

I do think Palme is undeniably better than Smith. Few QBs aren't, but he's not the QB of the future nor worth paying what Cincinnati wants is all I'm saying.

If you're stuck with Smith then your next QB should be a franchise guy.

Well Kaepernick is the "franchise" guy in waiting...if all goes well he should be able to start next year. It's not guaranteed, but I really like his chances of becoming a really good QB.

And I'd want Carson here, but Cincy's owner is too stubborn to know that he's better off trading him and getting something in return rather than getting nothing back for him.

i think he could be decent too but i hope the team puts him or whoever they go with next in a position to succeed.

for as much of a dissapointment as alex smith was, he never had a chance to do well from the get go.  from mike nolan giving up on him early when he was still potentially salvagable to consistent crappy offensive lines, to mike singletary not knowing what the hell to do, to jimmy rayes crappy and predictable playcalling almost any qb put into those type of situations would struggle to succeed. alex smith making the same mistakes and just not being number 1 pick material has alot to do with it as well but the team is at fault for how they handled him from the get go and i hope whether its kaepernick, andrew luck, or anyone else that ends up being the long term solution is handled better and put in a much better position to do well and improve from the get go.-------- all that said regarding alex smith, i really don't have no hard feelings towards him,  i hope him and the 49ers part ways soon and it will be best for the both of them,  unlike fellow bust jamarcus russell  i think alex smith actually put the effort in to improve and actually wanted to succeed and cared about winning but he just didn't have it but a new situation and fresh start might do him some good elsewhere.

to be honest though, for this year if kaepernick continues to show promise this preseason i hope they start him as soon as alex smith starts messing up and let him develop on the job under the new regime and see what he's capable of.  at this point i would prefer 5-6 wins with him as the starter if he shows improvement and develops and shows he could possibly be the answer then have alex smith start and possibly play respectful enough to win the crappy division at 8 or 9 wins only to suck the next season under a first place schedule.

i would trust jim harbaugh and his regime with a young qb much more then i would mike nolan or singletary and there's some decent options on offense so the minute alex smith messes up i would hope they get kaepernick out there and see what he's capable of.

I actually believe that the bust that is Jamarcus Russell is actually not as bad as the bust that is ALex Smith. At least Jamarcus sucked so bad that the team had no choice but to part ways with him, where ALex has some how tricked the organization into thinking he wasnt a bust for 7 years.
