Official 2013 NFL Washington Diplomats SEASON Thread - Last Game 12/29 @ 1:00 PM vs. Giants

From Schefter
WHEW

Great news, that. But Black Jesus would have just healed himself if worse came to worst.

Hall was getting burned down the field seemingly every other set of downs. Good to see Haslett make the necessary adjustments in the second half. Our secondary really isn't good enough to hold up against a decent QB, especially with those injuries in the front 7, but they mixed in some more blitzes and stunts to manufacture some pressure in the second half. Defense stepped up big, as did Cousins making those cold throws. Forbath came up BIG. Good stuff.

Hail.

Thankful Bob's injury isn't season ending. Hopefully we play well enough so we can rest him against the Browns, and then he comes back for the Eagles and the Cowboys. I've got tickets for that Cowboys game, it's gonna be wild :pimp:

Yes! Praise Kobra Kai!

This. Thank you Kai 4Bath

Great news on RG3 glad he is ok. The browns are on a nice run right now. I hope he is healed by Sunday. But i don't think he should be out there at 75%. Trent Richardson is going to run all over us though.

Browns have won 3 in a row...this game is by no means a "layup." Can go either way. Looking ahead, we love what Cobra Kai has brought to this team w/ his kicking. However, his KOs have been a problem. For whatever the reason, he can't get the ball deep. Since Banks is inactive, would it make sense to bring in a KO specialist? Having opposing teams start at their 20 opposed to the 35/40 would be huge. This is all under the premise that Banks is eventually let go.

Also, you can EASILY make a case for Alf being the best rookie RB in this draft class. A guy like him further proves the point that you can find value at the RB position ANYWHERE in the draft.

At 7-9, Skins have met my expectations for the season. But now I'm greedy. I want MORE. Playoffs would be amazing...9/10 wins would set the tone for next year.

I really hate that this win had to come at the expense of RGIII's knee.

This isn't really going to change anything however..they can tell RGIII to slide and get out of bounds all they want (which he has worked on), but when the game is on the line, he's gonna throw his body out there...a winner's mentality..i can't say that I am mad at that at all.

what a come from behind victory though, especially with Alf's fumbling problems & D Halls dumb &$ play/penalty.

Lets see if the Skins can pull off the W against the Browns, a type of game we historically lose.

EXACTLY!

And RG3 has said the same thing...if the game is on the line, he's going to do what it takes to win.

Brace yourself...there is gonna be talk (at least on DC radio) about shutting Griffin down for the season. I say **** all that noise! If he's medically cleared to play, put him out there. [fred smoot] point blank, period. [/fred smoot]

We're right in the thick of things in the NFC. This has been an amazing season so far, so let's try to keep it going!

D.Hall obviously isn't 100%...dude was on crutches all week due to his ankle. A combination of the FedEx turf + not being able to make sharp cuts + just being d.hall = Food for Boldin.

So this is what it feels like to have a kicker who is automatic.

Chip Lohmiller reincarnated!

The game was one of the best games in recent memory, but it was a sombering victory after seeing RG III's leg crumple like a slinkee.

Was hoping it wasn't a Joe Theismann moment in the making.

3 more must win games. Can't rely on other teams to lose.

As said above, this game against the Browns is usually a game the old era of ******** would lose. Hoping this change of culture helps the team buckle down and play 4 hard quarters whether RGIII is in there or not. I believe we can win this game with Kirk, however he'd have to play to his highest ability. Hail.

Funniest thing I've read today:

Shanahan builds offensive lines, always has and always will. If Kirk Cousins started this season, we're looking at a similar record. Maybe a 6-7 record.
Wilson, ehhh. He's been solid. Not sure why but I just don't have faith in him. He's behind the two QBs and Doug Martin in my book for ROY
Luck, you said he cleans up after his own mess. Son took the worst team in the league and has them at a 9-4 record. I don't care if he messes up, he's won those games.

6-7 record w/ Cousins :wow:

That's absurd. We'd probably have 4 maybe 5 wins with Kirk at the helm. Probably less actually, but this guy is a Giants fan living in the 703 he's gonna discredit everything the Skins do because that area hypes the ******** like no other. I know from living there, at school in 05 people were talking Super Bowl once we made the playoffs. Around there we were praising the signings of Deion, Bruce Smith, Steve Spurrier, Haynesworth, and etc. The people in Fairfax love the Skins a little too much quite honestly. However, if he really watched our team last year he would know we weren't good...no consistent run game, Rex Grossman, and a defense that was on the field for the whole game. Also, the Shanahan's weren't exactly in anyone's good graces. Complete 180 compared to this year.

went to MNF and the Ravens game! Both of them were crazy! if somebody got tickets for that Cowboys then hit me up

Beggars can't be choosers champ.
Explain. I'd LOVE to hear you're rationale.
Way to change your originally statement champ, don't worry I wont hold that against you.  I'll give you a pass..............for now

.  To answer your question, I say that because as it currently stands the Skins are not in the playoffs if the season were to end today. The Skins are in the playoff hunt, but they aren't quite where they want/need to be RIGHT NOW.  The Skins and more importantly their fans are on the outside looking in.  There's a difference between being the person that has the gun in their hand versus being the person that has the gun to their head.  The Skins right now are starring down the barrel of not making the playoffs.  Even if the Skins win out the rest of the season they need alot of prayer, hope and miracles for them to get a playoff spot given how some of the other teams in the NFC are playing.  In short, the Skins DON'T control their own fate, other teams do.  That's not where as a team you want to be if you or anyone else makes statements about "being greedy" or "wanting more".  Sometimes you gotta be happy with what your given.  Sort of like a bum begging for change.   Be happy with what you got.

Also, before the season even began most rationale Skins fans were expecting a 6..........maybe 7 win season, and that was agreeable for the most part.  Now that the Skins fans find themselves beating those expectations they want more, but you and others should truly keep things in perspective with where this team is and where this team still needs to go.  I think we can all agree that the Skins just aren't quite there yet. They look solid and could possibly get to where they need to be but not right now.  Now's the time for the Skins to be patient and go with the flow.  That and to also hope RGIII is okay and recovers well from his sprained knee.

Ensuring RG III is healthy and the face of the franchise for years to come is more important than a postseason appearance this year.

I thought this team would win 6-8 games this year and while they have won some games that were impressive, they lost some to inferior opponents.

A lot of highs and lows, but the fact that they are playing relevant football in December.....that is impressive and not taken lightly.

I can definitely see the Giants and Cowboys losing a couple of games down the stretch.

The original statement of "shut up" still applies, but I was actually more curious about what you had to say, hence the edit.

No, the Skins don't control their own fate and need help, but look at the position they're currently in? If they win out and finish at 10-6, there's a chance they won't make the playoffs. People get that. However, for a team that was predicted by some to win as little as 2 games (ESPN), winning 7 with 3 games left is awesome.

4 weeks ago there was talk about firing Shanahan. As I said, it was much too early to judge the man. The team has responded well since the bye and is playing their best football of the season. IMO, there are no expectations (as a fan) going beyond what's currently happening. THIS is exactly why people are greedy right now. Why shouldn't they try to overachieve? We're not supposed to be in this position, but we are.

You're right...Skins currently are on the outside looking in. But guess what? Season doesn't end after 13 games. There is still meaningful football yet to be played and we're right in the thick of things.

I can't complain one bit as a fan. This team has met my expectations and any other wins going forward are a bonus.

No one in that locker room I can guarantee is complacent or content with their current 7-6 record. They want the playoffs BADLY because it's a REALISTIC goal.

A lot of our hopes ride on the health of RG3. He's got to be out there to give the Skins a shot at making the playoffs or winning out.

Future is damn bright in DC for football.

The only battle more fierce than the Skins/Ravens game.......

Deuce vs JJs07

Next cook out I have for a Skins game (playoffs)......I'm inviting both of you guys. Bring your best material.

........and brotha I was one of the main ones leading that charge, and just like you said my original sentiment on that still applies.  However, I guess folks can cut him a little bit of slack since the Skins are winning ball games and are currently in the playoff hunt.  I would say that's more so a reflection of the team opposed to Shanahan in particular but that's just me.
No, the Skins don't control their own fate and need help.
That's pretty much what I was getting at.  Like I said, the Skins simply aren't in control and that's not the end of the spectrum you want to be on as a team this late in the season.  With 3 games to go, there is very little to no room for error, the Giants appear to be playing good all things considered, Skins are playing solid..........we'll have to check on the status of RGIII later on in the week and who knows what the Cowboys might do.  Then you take a look at the rest of the NFC teams and realize what needs to occur on the Skins end to even have a chance.
Future is damn bright in DC for football.
Now this much I can agree with you on.

This right here
They have already exceeded most expectations. If RG3 isn't healthy and risks more injury with a weak knee he better not be out there. The browns will run all over us but maybe we can keep it a low scoring game and try to sneak out a victory with Cousins. But we need RG3 for the next 10 years out there leading our team. Don't put him out there in a knee brace with limited mobility for him to get hit a ton. But i know if he can play even at 50% he would want to be out there. Watching him hobble out there on one leg against the ravens was truly awe inspiring.
