Official 2017 Knicks Offseason thread, Phil Jackson gone

I'm really not just talking about Dirk's rookie year though.

Your proving my point.
How? :lol

Unless you saying Melo can play the 5 too.
I don't believe KP nor Melo are "small ball" 4's and 5's. They are 4's and 5's period and perform better at those positions offensively and defensively. LeBron is probably the second greatest basketball player ever who is an athletic freak of nature still after 13 years in the NBA. Son can legit play 4 positions extremely well. Him matching up against Draymond in the finals and playing some minutes at the 5 has nothing to do with the KP and Melo Knicks giving Joakim 4 years 72 mill situation.
Wait when did I say LeBron playing the 5 had anything to do with Noah's contract? :rollin

What are you reading?

The LeBron (and Dirk) comparison has to do with the Melo and KP position talk.

The Noah contract stuff is a different topic. What does his contract have to do with Melo or KP being a pf and center?

I don't know what you're talking about.

Idk how you can say Melo isn't a true PF when he had his best season ever offensively and defensively in 2012 playing the position full time.
I'm not gonna repeat myself man :lol I just explained my reasoning. It's not hard to understand.

Positions change over time especially depending on your team like Duncan becoming more of a center in his later years. Don't mean Timmy was a true center.

First you claim Dirk played SF which wasn't true

Then u try to make the point that neither KP or Melo are "true" 4's and 5's which isn't factual at all. Melo has been a power forward since 2012. He was extremely successful at it on both sides of the floor and was a legit MVP candidate

KP is seven foot three and excels at rim protecting. He didn't have the lower or upper body strength to log minutes at center consistently last year especially being a neophyte but this year it's different. I don't consider him a "small ball" center he is a center and will be the best player he can be at that position offensively and defensively.

Noah's large and lengthy contract hinders our team from playing to its absolute strengths on a consistent basis. With a contractual commitment like he has its gonna be hard to maneuver him around for the betterment of the team

A Cole Aldrich type on a 1 or 2 year 6 mill per deal would've sufficed when you have KP, O'Quinn, and Billy on extremely team friendly deals.

Once a Knicks always a Knick Steve Francis arrested this morning for drunk driving, weed possession and threatened "revenge" against the police

Interesting stat: We're 6-1 when Rose scores 15 or less points, 0-6 when he goes over 15

I'm not sure what true shooting percentage is but it damn sure ain't 110/233, that's 47%...
True shooting percentage takes free throws into account, which is why for most players it'll be way higher than their regular FG shooting

why couldnt steve francis just go ball overseas like starbury and become a legend there while getting paid

Melo's FG% (46.7) & FT% (85.5) are both above league average.

His 3pt% (34.2) has been trending in the wrong direction for a few years now.

Would you equate his lower 3PT percentage to him not having his legs under him on a consistent basis ?

That's what I said. Outside of a fantasy league what it is it used for? Serious question...
Weeelllllllll in today's NBA stats like that are a big deal when telling of how good a player really is or what their worth is in a certain system or with certain players.

Nik Stauskas and Mike Muscala currently lead the league in TS% at 70% & 68% but there's no way I'd ever pick them up on my fantasy team lol

Not really a fantasy stat at all. Box scores are good representations for a good fantasy player but not really at all now for regular basketball

So they are really good and have a high value because the TS% is high? Don't play fs because I'm not a stat man.

Not necessarily

There's a lot more stats that measure different things than simply shooting ability

Efficiency probably being one of the bigger ones which is calculated using the formula PTS + REB + AST + STL + BLK − Missed FG − Missed FT − TO) / GP

It's a really easy stat to calculate and can tell a lot about a player. Westbrook is currently the efficiency leader this season at 31.3.

15-20 range is average. 20-25 is good. 25-30 is great and anything above 30 is outstanding

Could be.

He's shooting 54% from inside the arc so it's not like he lost his touch or his mechanics are messed up.

That's the confusing part imo. A player, westbrook, 2nd in the league in TO's is considered the most efficient....
