Official 2017 Knicks Offseason thread, Phil Jackson gone

We do this every season. We see a bench player ball out for a few minutes and think he's the answer. Then he gets mad PT and you see why he's on the bench. Never fails. Baker was money tonight so I'm cool with giving him a shot
This true.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

I'd like to see a bench/undrafted player do this in the playoffs though. That didn't happen with Lin. Some wins now are okay to maybe get a top seed spot but recognize the whole team played inspired not just cuz of one player.

I'm still buzzin off of that win.

Melo has literally carried us to almost all of our big victories this year.

I really think the Olympics put a toll on his body and that's responsible for his spotty play this season. There's a reason almost all of his peers sat that one out.

Starting to realize that our situation hasn't changed much....all we have is Melo x KP...EVERYONE else is hit or miss and is expendable.

This team might actually be overachieving lol

I believe Knicks can make the playoffs and even compete....its just about Melos leadership and Noah being crafty and a veteran and Rose being productive and all their experience... Those 3 guys have a lot to prove

Melo is not trash, we are not trading him, lets kill that noise

The problem that I see is, he still thinks hes the only one that can score, and also doesnt want to put too much pressure on KP.

So Melo tries to be the hero in every game.

Melo needs to learn to TRUST his teammates to carry him and distrubute the ball.

I love Melo to death and appreciate everything he's done so far, but he just has to trust his teammates.

His squad has been garbage for almost a decade, so I don't blame him for lacking trust in guys like Lance or Bargs who lost us that game bc he took a shot in the final seconds WHEN WE HAD THE LEAD AND TIME ON THE CLOCK :{

oh i wouldn't blame just him, he just needs to show up in the big games they been in, but he made stupid decisions like requesting a trade to NY and making NY trade all their good players for him when all he had to do is wait until free agency that summer to join them, they would have been loaded

Cap was terrible at the time, couldnt have sign a max.

Baker has been good in his limited play all season. I don't understand why he can't get a consistent 10 minutes a night to prove himself. He can spot up, pass, drive, etc. The more players you have on the floor that can do multiple things the better. He should've gotten consistent minutes after how well he played against GS but Horny be on some other ****

U wanna be a on a good team or not, its sacrifices he should have made for atleast a year of 2...or he should have stayed in Denver... They was so close

No one on the Knicks have done that, I dont even think that 125 Melo took was even a pay cut as they claim.

Its all about money at this point.

I think Melo is happy with his gold medals, and thats it.

I think it's worth discussing Melo's character and how it needs to be at least somewhat re-evaluated for a second. A lot of the media and fans have really harped on how selfish this dude and how he only cares about himself. A lot of people believe that Melo is about his numbers and not about wins. Hell, people were hella frustrated at Melo's social media responses to criticism from his GM in the middle of the team making a great run and his comments after that last loss in MSG. But if you're an actions speak louder than words guy, then look at how he took KP under his wing last season and then take a good hard look at how he responded to the instances of heavy criticism this season. When Phil criticized him, he came out and had a great game to follow. After the media, MSG and just about everyone else destroyed him last week, he responded with back to back BRILLIANT games where sharing the ball was a critical point of emphasis for him. Listen, after the heart break in MSG, it'd be easy to picture a selfish player reverting right back to forcing up shots because when he played his heart out and shared the rock, the team still failed. But he came out and got EVEN MORE assists.

Then I'm watching this dude in the post game interview; shoulder is wrapped up like he's a MLB Ace that just threw 100+ pitches and he emphasizes Ron Baker and Lance Thomas' defense. Not his passing...not the go ahead bucket...Lance diving on the rock. Ron being ready and poised. It was a lot of "we's" going on.

Look, I'm not saying yall gotta love dude. You don't have to call him a star and if you want him traded because his timeline doesn't seem to fit when the Knicks will be ready to compete for a title; I've got no argument against it with how they look right now. But the character assassination posts are really overlooking how he's responded to criticism ON THE COURT this season. Take a second and really look at what dude does out there, this city has been pretty tough on him and the media nationally has sniped at him since that "stop snitchin" video when he was still a damned kid. But you can't tell me dude isn't leaving it all out there right now. Criticize the player, but give the character stuff a damned break at least for a while.

The fact we have made a few comebacks this year shows we do have the ability defensively. They haven't been huge deficits but it's encouraging to see for once

The timeline narrative is another one I don't understand. To me it actually works out perfect if we can just get consistent play around these two. KP should be just about ready to take over around the same time melo no longer can.

yeah Melo never had that leadership or even developed it from the years i've seen, always thought he was a extremely talented offensive player, but i never looked at him like that leader of an championship team, feel he can be a 2nd or 3rd best player on that team though and watch him flourish, but he's too talented to be content with his career thus far
