You guys might already know about this, but I heard an MLB insider (can't remembrer which one now - Ken Rosenthal maybe?) interviewed on the Dan Patrick radio show this morning. He said the deferment was Ohtani's idea because he wanted the team to retain spending flexibility. Would have taken deferred money if he went to the Blue Jays too.

Basically, my takeaway was that Shoehi really loves baseball and wants to win in MLB, is sick of not making the playoffs and doesn't mind deferring most of his salary money because he's makes a ton of endorsements, there's tax benefits to collecting later and that's just the kind of dude he is.
 
I wonder if the Dodgers store has the authentics or if it's just the replicas which are easier to produce in house.
