Not a chance in hell will Manny go for that.
Only way that happens is you offer 10 year $350mil, with an opt out after 5, and when he opts out at age 31, you show him the door.

Before we even look at Machado or Harper, I think there’s an opportunity to get to a point where we have an excess of SP next year.
Could have 6 quality SPs on the roster + Sheffield waiting & Montgomery possibly available at the end of the year.

My idea is
Sevy, Tanaka are the definite guys
Patrick Corbin for somewhere between 4/100 or 5/115
JA Happ 1/15 or 2/25
CC 1/10 same thing he got for 2017.
Look at the trade market for SP. Anyone other than (young guy that isn’t already a lock on the roster or Sheffield & Florial) could be had.
That plan plus keeping DRob would end pitching being a weakness

the thing about pursuing starting pitchers this offseason is that they’re not great. it’s not like you have big names out there.
so you’re gonna have to overpay for guys that normally wouldn’t get this type of money

It’s all about depth really. If you give Corbin $20mil. Happ & CC $10-15mil each. You end up getting CC & Happ off the books in a year, 2 max and have Sheffield or Adams come in getting paid $500k-750k.
