Luxury tax is $206million next year.

$10,000,000 for the 26-40th man on 40man.

Leaves $75mil for 8 roster slots... 3 starters, 2 bullpen, Neil Walker, whoever else, and chasing Bryce.

even in his prime when we signed him it still didnt make sense to sign ellsbury... you have gardner who does the same exact thing at a cheaper price... getting big names just for the sake of it and paying for it literally smh...

Hindsight. Yes.

But there was an opportunity for him to give 20 HR /30 SB seasons for the first few years of the deal. Got close year 1. Then never got a groove with injuries and was disappointing. The backend was going to suck as most deals do.

But the first few years there was a potential for it to be in our favor and that never worked out for us.

Had Cano not screwed around, there’d be no Ells
