He’s a lot better than he was in the year with the Lakers before he was traded.
His on-ball / perimeter defense is better by significant amount.
He takes better care of the ball and is a better passer.

Perhaps it was the right move because he was never going to get a fair shot in LA. But Russell would have fit pretty well on the current Lakers team, and also may not have needed to be traded at all

if the Lakers hadn't gotten LeBron, then we could totally go back and say that we lost that trade, but the moment we got LeBron it officially settled it.
This is no hate on Russell, he's a very talented young player who's going to have a great career but our front office had other things in mind.
