For everyone who was talking about The Pacers doing Nate McMillian grimey by letting him go after the extension...FWIW because of that extension even though he may be out of a job, he’s actually guaranteed a portion if not all of that money so the Pacers FO did right by him, financially at least.

Mike Brown was getting paid by both LA/Clev...then got to GSW and won a ring as an assistant :lol. Come up 🔥

I fundamentally disagree with the premise that in order to change the system, nba players have to continue to participate in the system. The NBA players will never amass enough money to sizeup to the owners, league, tv sponsors, etc.

This can be done outside of the league though.

Please explain the connection between NBA owners and the judicial system. Explain how hurting Jim Dolan and Jeannie Buss' pockets is going to change things. I feel like some of you guys are trying to draw connections where they don't exist.
Because people like Dolan will not like losing money, then being able to put the screws to Trump, especially since all they both respect is blood, then money.

Whether the NBA goes on or not, I think it’s unrealistic to imagine that if basketball stops that all of a sudden white cops are going to stop killing innocent black folks. This isn’t a new problem and no matter how much racist ***** want to dig their head in the sand and validate the BS, police brutality against black bodies is well known. Is the NBA going to use their bottomless pockets to lobby for defunding the police and shift some of the funds to other social service avenues as well as support better training practices? Is the NBA going to Insist on better qualifications to wear a badge and carry a gun instead of 6 months of training?

I think it’s important and good that the players are trying to use their platform/status whether they’re playing or not but I don’t see how it will affect policy. They are probably better served by playing, earning their salaries and donating to well-establishes social advocacy programs. Investing in the black community. Improving healthcare availability. Opening businesses for jobs for minorities. Funding schools in underprivileged neighborhoods. Starting an after school program with trained advocates to get the kids off the street.

I don’t think anyone is under the impression that if basketball stops, white cops will stop killing black people.

Has any player come out and said “if we don’t play our actions will directly influence the issue”?

At best, boycotting is the players way of putting pressure on billionaire owners to do more with their deep pockets.

If the games don’t take place, owners don’t collect from TV networks and sponsors and then maybe the owners start to question if they are doing enough/ can do more.

But nobody is simple enough to propose that if Lebron doesn’t play tonight, social issues are resolved.

let’s not over simplify and misconstrue what the players would be trying to accomplish with a boycott of games.

The NBA and its sponsors have the political connections and finances to get things moving at the very least if they do chose to do so. This isn't a hard concept to grasp. They said in this venture they'd be keeping the focus on social justice initiatives but predictably, the game itself has taken precedent. Legislation is the most direct way to get things done with tangible results, follow the money as with how anything gets done.

You don’t think Dolan or Buss got lines to the ppl in charge of the Law in LA and NYC, and other connects around the country? The Ppl in charge of the Bucks can’t see what’s up with this last shooting case in Wisconsin? ...If your answer is no then no further discussion is needed between me and you

You do realize that these sports teams provide tons of jobs/ income which leads to more tax revenue for these cities and states. If they lose money, these states lose money. Jobs get lost. Politicians start to look bad. Paper starts to get shuffled. Things start to happen

and when has the money actually gotten " messed up" to the point where systematic change was made.
i respect their decision if they choose to walk but its gonna take a whole more for things to change.
Have y'all not heard of the Montgomery bus boycott ? The before and after?

For what it's worth the players and coaches have done their part...but the media is going to cover the action on the court over anything else.

Looking like Kyrie was right to me...if they stopped playing I wouldn't oppose it in the least.

money usually leads back to those in power who are protected by this legislation you speak of.

Read up on the Civil rights movement of the 60s. It's not the only way but as much of what we're seeing today it has to be in concert with other mechanisms (protest, awareness, and in cases violence).

Money in politics = influence. Lobbyists and the movers and shakers don't come for free. IF they are serious about the things they say they are, take it to where it will help the most. And you're kinda making my point the reason a lot of those in power are still being protected by current legislation is because they are paying for it.

I admire the effort made in order to play, then use a larger platform in order to get the point of injustice across. But now more drastic measures need to be used. Doc Rivers, Kenny Smith really and truly said what needed to be said. It opens the door for more radical expressions of discourse.

I am certain that many on this forum who tried to detract from any discussion of race and the NBA, will have a serious problem with such a move.

They're talking themselves into a corner at this point. I just hope we don't see something weak like this again as a response

I hope these players ain’t just talking to talk ...... again if they feel strongly they should just go home now ...... Celtics and raptors should boycott and let bucks and heat be the de facto eastern conference finals ....

If game one happens and everyone is there like normal ..... smh 🤦‍♂️

This not the political or law thread but I’ll drop a lil knowledge cuz I want ppl to to know and do better...But there’s 3 types of legal and criminal systems in the USA : Black, White, and super rich....Most NBA players are employed by the folks in the super rich category and they all are in a league with partnerships and investments from the super rich...They are the ones that directly or can get to the people that influence laws, charges, buy pardons, pay offs, appointments to positions etc ...Boycotting is just asking wether they wanna use that influence to support what the players fighting for to get their basketball back

Wonder what Silver and co are thinking right now.
