Can’t just be Boston or Toronto. If one team pulls out everybody needs to follow suit.

Spencer spitting about the role that Nike plays in basketball discourse and dialogue

he's got a 70B owner that would no doubt put Kawhi in every billboard and commercial if they were to win a chip

steph doing fine with UA and going against the grain
AI had rbk and was one of the faces of the league

100% this.

To the point KHUFU KHUFU made, their effort to play and use a larger platform in order to get the point of injustice across has been truly admirable. I guess you could say it’s been ineffective in the sense that nothing has changed. If they do go the route of boycott, a drastic measure, I hope it is effective and there is tangible change as a result.

Full NBA boycott could hopefully spur on black NFL players to follow suit which effectively shuts down the league.

You take away football and start hurting those NFL owner pockets your going to have peoples ears.

Did the players sign anything in particular when they opted in ?

im sure there would be precursors, provisions and clauses in writing if they did

Where’s president Chris ?

Please explain the connection between NBA owners and the judicial system. Explain how hurting Jim Dolan and Jeannie Buss' pockets is going to change things. I feel like some of you guys are trying to draw connections where they don't exist.

Doesn’t even touch on the lobbying the owners do for their other ventures. Which is why the whole “shut up & dribble/stick to sports” stuff is nonsense.

NBA teams are worth billions. They’re significant assets, a valuable part of any businessman’s portfolio. Value declines if there’s a prolonged work stoppage, look at the NHL. If these guys can lobby for everything else, they can lobby for AA human rights, minority voter suppression, etc. But they’re billionaires, they speak in dollars, so they don’t have an incentive to do much more other than put out black lives matter merchandise. A prolonged stoppage in play might get them there.

And some folks vilifiied Myrie for this

Thanks for sharing this! I can’t say I’m surprised in the issues they were lobbying for. The NBA’s commitment situation was...interesting.

The fact that a lot of NTers don’t understand what the impact of a boycott would make is even more reason why it’s the right thing to do

I think most would acknowledge that the economic and financial impacts are undeniable but right now any political and judicial Impacts are based on speculation and hope. I see the dots but I struggle with the seeing them connect in the way that we would like. I was also a cautious skeptic of the bubble and was flat out wrong so I hope the same is the case here.

It would take a lot for those in power to make any drastic changes this close to such a pivotal election but as ill steelo ill steelo said, a boycott might help get them there. Drastic times call for drastic measures.

a lot of these players cant afford to lose these checks.

A boycott in the NFL wouldn't work for a variety of reasons. Like casper90403 casper90403 mentioned, most NFL players don't have nearly as much money as NBA players. NFL contracts aren't guaranteed The majority of NFL players are on their first contract. The average NFL salary is $2.7m (and that number is bolstered by outliers like starting quarterbacks making $30m+). Most NFL guys simply can't afford it.

Also, most fans only recognize a handful of NFL players. If some random linebacker on the Rams sits out there are hundreds of fringe NFL/practice squad guys who would take his place. It would really take the black superstars of the NFL (Russell Wilson, Patrick Mahomes, DeShaun Watson, etc.) boycotting to really make a difference to the average fan.

Assuming the bubble keeps going, very interested in whether the vibe/play changes after conjugal visits start next week.

Yeah i meant all black players.

But like you outlined most guys cant take that hit financially.

Why would you want all black players to boycott
Unfortunately that would make less of an impact than if Rodgers, Watt, Brady etc boycotted.

Anyway an NFL boycott COULD happen because the guys who can afford to not get paid are also the most important players

I don't think that these men being able to openly have sex, will change anything in regard to behaviors. It isn't prison.
