The most painful thing about this, is that all of this would be fixed if Ben just….shot the ball.
but now we’re jumping through hoops to try and trade for someone. Terrible situation to be in.

Ben Simmons has been in the league long enough and has the resources to help w/ his jumper if he wanted, miss me w/ that "I should be shooting right-handed but I don't" nonsense.

Shades of G5 last night. Letdowns all over the place.
Starts with the coach. Doc went with Thybulle to close instead of Maxey like in G6. Could’ve even gone with Shake if you want a vet. The issue with Thybulle is Simmons hasn’t shot the ball for the past several games now, Thybulle can’t shoot, and they’re both getting screened on defense so Atlanta’s guards are still getting wherever they want on the floor.
So their defensive value is neutered. At least one of them has to come off the floor. Doc disagrees, and you end up with stuff like this:
Collins with great individual play on these 2 clips, but you see even if he gets beat, there will be TWO Hawks waiting for Embiid in the paint. Are we in 2001 or 2021?
They go to a post up here, but Capela fronts it and Gallo is ready to break up a lob on the backside because Simmons has to be around the paint, so Gallo is around the paint.
So Embiid has to get it 30 feet out and the possession is doomed. Clock running down and Tobias has to settle for a tough runner. Ugly.
Embiid settles here but it’s tough to blame him when there’s two Hawks in the paint and Thybulle is his corner shooter

By my count they had ONE quality halfcourt possession in the fourth.
Seth calls for a pick, Embiid pops like in G5 so I hate it already, but he wisely turns down the 3, Seth brilliantly sets and slips a screen, Huerter switches, Capela stays low to provide help, 3.
Basic, but effective. Atlanta doesn’t have an answer if you want to hunt Trae/Huerter/Bogey/Gallo on the switch but we never see this again from Philly.
Instead, it’s like Philly has amnesia:
Also didn’t see any of that Chicago Slice action that gets them a look EVERY time:
But Doc did draw up an ATO set that had his center initiating offense from 30 feet out with the game slipping away:
Looking forward, Simmons is likely gone. Similar but different profile to a guy like Rudy Gobert. You can neuter his defensive value in the playoffs and his offensive repertoire is too limited to counter.
Doc probably gets another year so they’re gonna hope that Embiid + 4 shooters is too hard to defend because Doc still leaves a lot to be desired as a tactician. Good luck.

On the other end, Atlanta stuck to the script. Playoff basketball, find your mismatch & attack. As mentioned before, Embiid is in drop, Philly has other dudes who can’t guard the perimeter. Find your mismatch and go. Open looks all series long. Philly has no answer, every team has this issue…. including the Hawks

Its wild. The only thing Ben does do left handed is NOT shoot jumpers and occasional free throws.
In the video, damn near all his paint attempts were right handed. A mere 3% of his LSU shots were left
. And that’s at the rim.Out of 265 non jumpers, Ben shot 216 with his right hand. 39 with both. And 10 with his left
.Apparently, he does every single thing else right handed too. It’s insanity

he used to do some really weird **** at LSU (and still does sometime now). Where have an easy finish with the left…but switch to his right and miss
His shooting base is also naturally right handed. With his feet, hand placement.

Had some time to sit with it. My preference is to keep Ben and bring in a Lowry. Or trade Tobias for Beal or CJ.
