Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Season Thread Vol: (17-17)

My dude SJ! How's it going fam?

Never been one to believe that adding a struggling, aging arm will put us over the top.
From what we've seen all year, a repeat is a stretch but a postseason appearance is within reach.
Theo and Jed are smart enough to know that this rotation has ran its course. Don't need no aging arm with excessive mileage....his best years are behind him and unless Kate Upton comes out in a bikini to throw out the first pitch of every game, not interested.

I think we had this discussion last year as well with CP where I said that I didn't believe that Theo and Jed would go 200+ mill for Jake, and I still believe they won't. We got two solid lefties in Lester and Q, and we got Hendricks. We need a young gun not a retiring vet.

Was really hoping for Gray or Archer.

I'm really interested to hear everyone's opinion on this. How do you guys see Jed and co rebuilding this rotation.

Verlander would have been a fine option.

To get Q, we gave up our two best prospects.
To get Archer or Gray, we don't have the prospects to give up.

Verlander would just be buying a contract, a SHORT contract, 2 years with a possible option for a third. Perfect for bridging the gap until 2019-20 when our young arms should start trickling in.

Jake for 6 years is no chance, but if Jake would sign a 3 year deal, Theo/Jed would be all over that. Same principal as buying Verlander.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd Jake just left the game with a leg injury. ****

W!

Avila with the game winning RBI :nthat:
Dude's been paying off dividends since he joined.
4 up on the Cards and Brew crew, gotta keep rolling.

C'mon CP, I know you're not advocating for a Verlander signing.
I'd rather let Theo and Jed work they're magic in the offseason, and reload with the extra $$$, guys wanna play here now.

The pitching market is bare bare bare this winter and we're losing Jake and Lackey.

JV for 2 years is perfectly acceptable.

(Same as Jake for 2-3 would be great, for 5-6 not so much)

This what this years FA pitchers class will look like....with the 2019 FA class being nuts!

Alright fellas, if we cant resign Jake and we kick Lack to the curb, who do u guys see as a potential fit and good replacement?

Chatwood is def worth a look.
Lance Lynn, maybe as a #5
Cobb or Cashner, maybe, but both risky arms.

None of them equal Jake + Lackey tho.

Also, check your PM SLP.

Cubs win, Cardinals lose. :pimp:

7 games left with Brewers
7 games left with Cardinals.

Seriously, just go 3-4 vs both, and that's enough to hold them off.

Take 2 of 3 vs Reds, split with Tampa, and get 2 of 3 vs the Mets. That's 11 wins and almost 90. Cards/Brewers would have to play insane to catch us.

:smh:
Took a beating out there today.

Still holding a 3 game lead but Maddon's gotta do something to get the guys riled up here.

Brutal, brutal, BRUTAL weekend.

Up 5 games, chance to finish Brewers at home, swept. :smh:

Terrible, terrible series.

Bright side, day off, Contreras is back, Degrom pitched today so we miss him and no Thor, chance to get back in shape with Lester/Quintana goin next, hope Jake comes back vs STL next weekend.

2 game lead, 19 to go. 1 W would have had us up 4 with 19 to go. :smh:

Much needed W.

Q with a solid start, Bryant 3-run HR, Schwarber and Happ each solo shots.

2 up, 18 to go.

Almora 3-run homer, 3-run triple, he entered the game in the 7th.

17 runs, Baez 4 hits including a solo shot, Rizzo 4 walks, Bryant/Zobrist 3 hits, Contreras 2 hits and 3 RBI and came out early. (Cautious with his work load.)

Cards lost. :pimp:

14 more for the Cubs, Rizzo 3 hits including his 32nd homer, Bryant a 2-run double, Heyward a 3-run homer, and Almora another pinch hit 2-run double.

So, 3 games up, 16 to go. Cards in town this weekend.

Win 2 of 3 here, might finish off the Cards. Bottom line, don't do like last weekend.

Just scored 39 runs in 3 games, keep it going.

Russell activated. :pimp:

Arrieta close.

Contreras suspended two games, but appealing so he will play vs STL. Hoping it gets reduced to one game, would sit (rest) vs Tampa.

Win today, really put pressure on these bum *** Cards. Need Hendricks to Game 6 this.

Addison Russell :wow: :pimp:

Cubs win 4-1 :pimp:

Hendricks with 7.2 inning and only 1 run allowed.

Crazy, but Cubs now lead the NL in runs, even with the "down" year.

Contreras suspension is reduced to one game, and after back to back starts and a tough right, Contreras sits today, with off day tomorrow he'll get nice rest for final 13 games.

If we go 8-5, we get to 90 wins, after bein 2 games under .500 at the All Star break. Maddon in the second half :pimp:

SWEEP :pimp:

Schwarber homer, Heyward game winning RBI, Davis 31-31 saves.

Off day tomorrow, Contreras back, 13 games left. DH next two games.
