Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Season Thread Vol: (17-17)

Well, we give up a humiliating 18 runs, have 3 position players pitch, and then come back today with Chatwood starting and give up only 2 hits. :lol: :pimp:

Zobrist with 4 hits, Baez with 3, and we win game 1 of a DH 7-2. Now hopin Monty can throw 5-6 solid innings, get back into that Cardinal pen, and do some more damage.
 
Take these wins any way we can get them.

New addition Jesse Chavez had a nice debut, we're gonna need all the help we can get from the Pen.
 
Horrible loss in game 2 of the DH. Up 3-1 late, Baez ejected, 14 hopper past 2nd drives in the tying run in the 9th. :smh:

Could have been up 3-1 in the series coming into today.

Gotta have this one today. Need Q.

Interesting, Cubs and Rangers are talking about a potential Cole Hamels trade. Nothing official, but we're tried to land Hamels before, wonder if there's something to this.
 
Bad series vs the Cards, but we salvage game 3 at least.

Brandon Kintzler could be added before the deadline. Solid pickup, if we get him.

Him + Chavez + Hamels would be the adds for the season to the staff. Ground ball guys that induce soft contact. Perfect for our defense.

Robbed last night when Russell "tripled" in the 9th to make it 5-4 with no one out and Rizzo/Zobrist up next and replay overturned the call.

Today, Hamels starts and gets to bat in the first inning before throwing a pitch. :pimp:

9-2, Contreras a 2-run Homer, Hamels 5 innings, 0 ER, 9 K's.
 
Terrible first game vs SD, but yesterday got Solo shots from Baez/Rizzo and Baez/Bote both threw out runners at home in the 8th/9th.

Now today in the 2nd,
Schwarber bomb
Happ single
Russell RBI single
Rizzo 2-run Homer
Zobrist double
Heyward RBI single.

Baez another bomb, but another rough start for Lester too, and we blow it late. :smh:

Russell almost delivered the go ahead hit in the 7th, but Galvis made a great play to keep it tied, and the pen gave it right up.

Need to SWEEP KC. 2-1 isn't even good enough, need to cushion this lead with lesser teams and be ready for the tougher matchups.
 
No hits thru 5.2, then Rizzo 13 pitch walk, Baez walk, Zobrist walk, then Heyward cranks a 2-run single, later Rizzo adds an RBI walk, Cubs come back for the 36th time to win a game. :pimp:
