Yeah I definitely think there is some truth to this, also it’s pretty clear they use StockX/GOAT as a measure of what is popular and simply create derivative cws like:

“Oh, Mochas are popular?? Well, let’s release the ‘We got Mochas at home!’”

This would definitely explain the green glow releases. Probably saw the 4s going for $800 in goat and figured it would be an automatic hit lol.. whoever is running things at JB is out of touch.

Reminder that any shoe is designed/workshopped/brainstormed for a year+ before we see it on the shelf. There is a whole industry based around predicting and setting trends, especially in regards to color, that is not limited to sneaker colorways lol. Maybe these latte joints aren't as nice as mochas, but if someone wants a shoe to match their earth tone outfits, they might be pretty happy with em.

Also, mochas dropped in 2020. Let's take kids that were 16 in 2020 that are now 20 in 2024. They might not have been able to get mochas in 2020, but now they can get lattes. I think that's pretty good for nike and for the consumer.

Or if they want consumers to have them they could just re-release em.

Then dudes would whine and cry about that. It's too soon. It's lazy.

Some people are going to complain regardless

It's weird to me. Do people complain about stuff on the Chickfila menu they don't buy?
Idk why but people have a strange hate fetish for Jordans. The stuff they criticize JB for online can be applied to every other shoe maker... JB seems to be the focus of everyone's vitriol though.

I've only had Chick-fil-A once.

Spicy chicken sandwich.

...it was okay.

I've echoed this sentiment in this thread several times. Nice to hear someone else understand it, too

Still can't wrap my head around the fact that individuals on niketalk think jordan brand is producing exclusively for them  some y'all gotta take some basic business/marketing courses man

Also a reminder that the heritage and nostalgia that many of us here get from retros is not as important for acquiring new consumers. Loyal customers that would be buying retros of OG colorways are easy to account for and track, especially when they literally have nike accounts. They're cash cows. But there are countless untapped buyers that JB wants to turn into lifetime customers.

I live in Brooklyn where the NY Liberty play. Green glow 1s go pretty well with their primary color. There's a snipes across the street from where the Liberty's arena is, and the season starts in a couple weeks. Maybe a family walks in before the game and cops some 1s to match their Liberty gear. Maybe a kid walks in with their parents and likes the color and gets their first of many pairs of jordans to start with.

I was an 11 year old kid who got team jordans because they were cheap and had a jumpman on them. Fast forward and I wouldn't touch those with a 10 foot pole, but now I buy at least 3-4 pairs of jordans straight from the brand per year. That's a pretty good return for JB.

It's really baffling to me that people don't understand it or they're intentionally being obtuse.

They feel that JB owes them something, rather than them being a corporation trying to make money and answer to stock holders. They don't treat Nike and JB like any other company. How dare Honda make the Odyssey. They should use that time and resources to create more Accord's and SUV's, because I don't like minivan's. I would sound crazy saying that. If you have a Tesla Model S you aren't complaining about the Cyber Truck being ugly.

People up here actually say they should make less sneakers. Yeah, Pizza Hut should try and create 60 quality pizzas a day instead of selling 600. That will keep them in business.

but then a week later they will complain about them not making enough Barkley's, Penny's or whatever hype sneaker with a name attached and them striking out and having to pay resell.

If JB produced 10 fire sneakers a month, they would complain about that. JB is making me spend too much money.

It seems difficult to buy what you like and ignore and move on from what you don't for some. After the 25 years NT has existed it seems like people would be over some of these conversations.

Yes, no one wants that grilled sammach.

Y'all spent the last few pages complaining about JB lacking creativity being the reason for all their shoes bricking but then I mention the one guy who can save them(he's done it twice already btw) and you laugh it off. Typical sheep behavior, hating on dude cause it's the "cool" thing to do. :smh:
Naaa son I wanted Gentry gone back in the day for the crimes he’s committed on shoes.
They need “new” innovations and ideas let that old relationship go

Calling people sheep because no one agrees with your terrible opinions is just asinine.
I don’t understand how anyone engages with him. He’s a broken record spewing the name nonsense about the exact same shoes here month in, month out. Get a new hobby!

The Jordan 1 High '85 Black/Red is now slated to release on February 14, 2025.

The discussion of these shoes starts at the 12:44 mark of this video. It does mention that these will be a general release. Hopefully that means these are attainable if you put in the time and effort when they come out.

And yet I have no idea who are you... Some of you cats need to lighten up.

Why not just retro Mochas then? They could easily do that.

lmao the stubbornness in this thread. Y'all main characters are just never gonna be satisfied. Again, magic said it well enough already.

It was the same **** when mochas actually dropped. "DiEt TraVIs ScOtTs, we got travis scotts at home, why not just make the travis scotts a wider release..."

Their whole retro business is consolation prizes. Would the upcoming '85 shape black/red 1s be as exciting if we got em like that before? Would reimagined wc3 have been as exciting if we been had wc3s with nike air and improved shape? Hell no. We was getting jumpman heels, plastic leather, strapped up black/red 1s...and people still bought em!!! JB revenue was $6.6 billion in 2023 they not worried about what 50 guys on niketalk think about their business model

C’mon fam, don’t act like Mochas were ever bricks or not massively hyped… Anyone saying stuff like that was in the VERY vocal minority. Mochas were hyped on their own accord.

“Their whole retro business is consolation prizes.”

Yes and because enough people cared, they have made positive changes over the years. Look at how Nightwing and other sneaker influencers complained about issues over the years and they have made a lot of those positive changes. If nobody ever said anything, we might still have Jumpman branding on all Air Jordan 1 retros.

Mochas were the poor mans Travis' until they actually released and were hard to get.

Stimulus money and PMP loan money changed things back then. Everything that released back when basically has a Covid curve.

The Palominos were a good release, and weren't hard to get. It probably had to do with them changing production numbers and then they sit.
