Official Air Max 97 Thread

Honestly I've given up blaming people and just accepted it as what it is. I don't blame the shoe companies. They do it bc it creates hype which helps brand image. Look at Jordan in 2016/2017. They mass produced everything to the point where everything sat. They became not cool real quick.
Jordan Brands earnings skyrocketed after mass producing sneakers. I bought a lot of their shoes after that and loved a lot of the newer models due to better materials and availability. The Space Jam release 2016 was Nikes biggest release ever and people still bought it til it sold out. Strong products with good design sell, no matter the production numbers. The companies are to blame too for relying on gimmicks and not on products.

As much as I want to, I can't blame resellers either. If I could buy a block of cheese and sell it for double or triple, I'd do it. Cheese lovers may hate me but would I care? No. I'd take their money.
You could also get a job to earn money and not intervene with peoples interests and extort them to make a quick buck. That's a very toxic attitude. You could actually choose a job that does provide people an actual, legitimate service.

At the end of the day, we're the ones to blame. We like exclusivity. If you just wanted gr's, you wouldn't be upset about the practice of reselling bc it wouldn't affect you. Just accept that we are the actual problem. It's not the shoe companies. It's not the resellers. It's us.
You are right in one regard - the people who care overly much about exclusivity ARE in fact to blame for a lot of that. But they are a part in a toxic triangle of which brands and resellers are a necessary part of. Everybody ****s up here.

It should be pretty simple - I've been collecting sneakers since about the turn of the millenium. Around 2000 you had older shoes from the early 90s and late 80s reselling for big bucks because they were GENIUNELY rare and hard to come by in good condition due to aging. Then the whole shtick with limited releases came during the mid 2000s with Nike SB and the Air Force Fad. Nike has become a very gimmicky company since then.
Nike became a huge brand because it was ahead of the curve in terms of design and products. And that's the reason people began collecting it in the first place, not because somebody on the internet thinks you're cool or because you wanna impress your classmates.

Unfortunately I have to agree with you on one part, even though you didn't phrase it that way - people are scumbags. And those tend to to be stubborn and not go away quickly.

Jobs are day jail bro.

Reselling puts you on the streets with your freedom right where they dont want you.

I hate it to but I cant hate that.

You can hurt other people wallets for what in reality is a luxury item and not a necessity. Or you can let some richer **** hurt your time for what will likely not be an equal compensation.

You know a quick fix for this? Just buy general releases and you won't have to worry about it. Or admit that you like and want the exclusivity but aren't willing to pay what others are for it. It's one or the other.

Stared down puddle-watching all night in that rain lol. Absolutely .5 Down is the way, I was surprised how much roomier these fit than any 97, 98, etc

The former is exactly what I do. I don't bother buying stuff that's being targeted as limited because I won't waste my time chasing after shoes I should be able to buy comfortably. When Nike pulled their stunt last year with the Air Max 97 I got mine when they restocked and no stress was involved. Same with the Air Max 1s. At least they've found a good strategy with OG releases that I can get behind. Kudos for that.

I'm not being personally struck by this anymore because I've got a pretty broad taste and avoid certain brands alltogether if they pull that ****. If they want it to make difficult for me to spend money on their products - have it your way. I'm just disappointed overall because this used to be a tightly-knit niche community when I started out and it evolved to **** pretty quickly.

So you're this upset about something that doesnt even affect you?

I don't know what you personally envision when you talk about people collecting stuff but I'd like to see a community of people who share their love for every day items. Because they are special to them in a way the usual guy doesn't get.
You don't need any "special releases" or anything like that. Just a good product. The "special" part of it is what you appreciate about it.
It used to be that way when I started out collecting sneakers.

Need Some Help Fella’s!

Still For Whatever Reason Have This Empty Feeling About Not Having These Damn Neckbeards, Call It FOMO Or Whatever You Will :ohwell: Pairs Are Drying Up Quickly Locally And I’m Hoping To Go Ahead And Shell Out The Cash Now Before Things Get Any Uglier On The Resell Market. Problem Being Is I Can Only Find Options In My True Size 10, Or A Full Size Down In A Size 9. Both Sellers Are Bent On $550, Which I’d Like To Get Down To $500 If Possible, And Am On The Fence As To Which Pair To Persue.

Lately I’ve Been TTS 10 In The AM97 Line (Silvers, Golds, Undftd, Japan’s Etc) This Has Me Leaning Towards The Size 9 But Would Much Rather Have My TTS 10 Than A Pair That Ends Up Being Too Small.

Any And All Help Would Truly Be Appreciated :nthat:

I would probably go down half a size so get a 9.5 instead.

No worries man!

Ok, yea Chucks, Timbs, and dress shoes only thing im size down in. Im worried about the heel slip in a 15 though. I had Anniversary AM1 joints with the "87" on the heel and those slipped so bad I had to return them. Didn't want a repeat situation. But I agree the 13 would be wayyy too small in my opinion. Man imma just have to go for the 14 and hope for the best.

AM1 in my true 14 are tight as hell, but I still get heel-slip if I don't lace them. Stiff outsole + low heel = heel slip. The Wotherspoons are really no different. As long as you lace up, you'll be good in a 14.

Ended Up Going With The Size 9 Since The Guy Was Willing To Budge To $500 And Also Had The Toddler Size To Go With For $150. All In All Couldn’t Be Happier With These In Hand :wow: I’m In Shock That This Dude Went 2/2 On These Via SNKRS App! I Told Him To Take My Money Straight To The Casinos

Will Buy Up Every Remaining Pair I Can At That Same Price Point Here Locally :nthat:

Noto Noto Let It Go Bro...

on another note, I was in Round Two and took some DS Zebras to sell in hopes of grabbing a pair of 1/97 SW.

homie offered me $500 store credit for the Zebras, I saw some sizes of 1/97 for sale there at $500 and asked to trade even steven.
Dude working shot me down, LMAO said the 1/97 were moving like Hotcakes

I sold mine cause I needed the money.
And I better start disliking them, cause at that price I won't get them anymore probably.
Join me. I disliked these from the start. The colors.

See how this customed colorway look better than original?

Or maybe it should had been blue colored like the other two samples.

Unless I moved from VA to LA like he did, VA->LA should have been a NIKEAIR logo.

I don’t get the waves tongue.
To me, this is a strictly collectors item.

absolutely, thats kind of the point

Those Midnight Swim customs are amazing. If Nike ever decided to do that irl I hope it has something else instead of pink on the heel.I guess purple would be the obvious choice. Im in love.

If I managed to get the Red Ronaldo's how much would I have to put forth to trade for the Gold?
