I heard Faizon on hot97 saying the black crowd didn't co-sign Dave at first, it was white folks cuz og the Tom Hanks movie he did. I mean he got a point but Dave didn't really pop off til Half Baked and that Killing 'em Softly special which black folks loved.

True, he was still kind of a side actor at that time. I mean he didn't really become a household name until the first season of Chappelle's show. After the black white supremacist episode he started gaining attention and he became huge after the Rick James episode. After that myself and other friends sought out his comedy specials.

Always preferred Chappelle in movies or sketches over his stand up. I didn’t find any of his Netflix stand ups to be funny. It was funny as hell to watch him sit there and scold wypipo while damn near the whole audience was white.
