Quick question, how do you pull off non auto multi hit air combos?

I can do the combos on the ground with no auto but as soon as i super dash the combo drops after the first 2 hits and i have cancel light-medium into a special.

In alot of videos i see people do light-medium-light-medium into special but i cant get the second light-medium inputs to work.
