That's an accepted theory. But I think his father was a Targaryen not his mother.

The obvious theory is the right one and I don't think Martin is going to change even though everyone figured it out.

FYI- this discussion is not spoilers because it has still not been revealed who his mom is.

Father a Targ, Mother a Stark

theory in spoilers, won't discuss the books...

The theory, which I think is right, is that Jon's father is Rhaegar Targaryen (son of the Mad King that Jaime killed, brother to Viserys and Daenarys) and his mother is Lyanna Stark (Ned's sister).
Ned's motive is that Robert hated all Targaryens, since Rhaegar "stole" Lyanna, as Robert was in love with her and supposed to marry her. Remember how Robert planned to kill Viserys and Daenarys? So Ned promises to his dying sister to keep that secret, and claims him as his bastard.
It makes more sense when you consider Jon's important role in the story, along with that of Dany, and the fact that the series is called "A Song of Fire and Ice"
There is more evidence from the texts to further prove this point but I won't go into that. If you want to know more google R+L=J

At this point point I've just come to accept it as fact.

I am so glad I read the books so I can enjoy this thread without getting spoiled. People are putting out too many "code words" in this thread. It doesn't take a genius to figure out some of them.

Yeah, you guys are putting out info that people might not want to see, popular theories or not. This thread is going to turn to hell quick.

There's nothing in regards to Jon's parents that hasn't already been covered in the show. Are you saying that people who have never touched the books don't have theories on who Jon's mom is? :lol

Going through the thread I don't see anyone posting spoilerific things without a spoiler tag.

^
Some probably haven't gathered the clues together yet. My friends who watch the show haven't thought about it much at this point. Even in the books, different characters throw out a few names. I've already read everything but you know how mad people get in this thread. The book threads prove pointless again :lol.

it's a theory.... it's what people think what's going on... that is in NO way a spoiler >D

I never said it was a spoiler >D. You know how people in the show threads are.

That theory also keeps Ned Stark's honor intact and puts him back as most honorable character int he story cuz damn near everybody else has to lie before they live or die. From the way he's painted I knew something was off about him having a bastard after coming from the last war. If anything this theory makes him even more honorable seeing that he didn't even tell his wife the truth.

Game of Thrones’ Actor Has Part of Ear Bitten

ABC News

Mar 26, 2013 10:44am

(Stephanie Methven/WENN)

Clive Mantle, who has an ongoing role in the “Game of Thrones” as Lord Greatjon Umber, had part of his ear bitten off at a U.K. hotel.

The English actor, 55, was attacked Sunday at a Newcastle-upon-Tyne Travelodge in a dispute over noise, his agent told the BBC.

He said Mantle was pinned to the floor in the hotel and attacked after asking other guests to keep the noise down.

“He is very shaken and shocked by what has happened. You don’t expect this kind of thing to happen in a hotel,” the rep said. “The [top] part of the ear that was bitten off was found and sewn back on. Mr. Mantle said the police, ambulance and hospital staff were amazing.”

A 32-year-old man from South Lanarkshire, Scotland, was charged with wounding with intent. He will appear before a magistrate’s court next month.

I say no but thats just off my impression of the first episode

Only thing that has piqued my interest is that "White Walker"

So help me

I was the same way. I watched the first two episodes then didn't watch again for months. Finally one day I rewatched it and by episode 4 or 5 I WAS HOOKED!

First few episodes had to set up basically every character and the main plot.

After seeing the buzz on NT, I started off by watching the first episode when season 1 concluded on on-demand, then ended up watching the whole first season in one day consecutively only bathroom breaks. :x :hat. From that day on, hooked.
