Official "Going to Vegas in..." Vol. II "It was time"

Circus Circus was part of the move towards Vegas being family oriented in the '90s. I don't know how old you are, but I remember so many friends talking about Circus Circus, because their parents would go gamble, and let their kids loose in there. It was all self contained.

Vegas completely abandoned the "family" vibe in the 2000s with the "What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas" thing, and over the last decade it's been "show your friends what you did in Vegas so they will want to come as well". Three very distinct eras over three decades.
I'm 27. How you described it was pretty much how it was. They would gamble and we would just roam around getting on rides and stuff. But it was just the surrounding area around Circus Circus I don't remember being so meh. Me and this chick who I was with pretty much walked from the Flamingo all the way down to that area and the closer we got to Circus Circus area, it just looked less lively and meh. There was also a long stretch of a few hotels being under construction so maybe that played a part

Loved Circus Circus as a kid, used to come home with so many stuffed animals :pimp:

Always felt bad for my dad who had to watch us instead of being at the slots lol.

Use to go to circus circus a lot as a kid all the way until I was grown. I didnt realize how trash that surrounding area was once you walk the strip towards the Circus Circus area.

I too grew up with Circus Circus. I'm about to be 40 this month and I've been going to Vegas since I was practically a baby. It's sad to see the route Vegas has taken in the early 2000's. Definitely right when it came to getting rid of the family concept. I've taken my nephew to Circus Circus when he was around 3, two years back and it's crazy how trashy it has gotten. He still enjoyed it since he still was a baby, but he won't get to experience the time it was at it's peak in the 90's. Quality of stuffed toys has gone downhill too. Hoping the new owner of Circus Circus does justice in saving that hotel. He's planning to renovate everything. It's practically one of the few themed hotels still in existence; not to mention one of the OG's on the strip. Everything is becoming bland where all the hotels are starting to look the same. Looking more like airport lobbies, than a hotel. Hopefully with Resorts World opening near them, potentially with the Drew hotel; that it would bring some love back into that northern part of the strip.

^ Very true. I would do the same too, but Vegas has always been nostalgic for me and one of my favorite places to visit. They’re going to have to do a whole lot to have tourism flourish once again after this pandemic ends. They’re hurting bad. With conventions and other events previously held out there, being cancelled or relocated; they don’t have much to go on at the moment.

I assume the resorts are done (for now) trying to fight Macau for Chinese whales so after the previous wave of hip/chic hotels and then RW, the next shift would be to average people to try to get tourists back? Basically remove all targeted demographics, lower rates across the board try to attract anyone and everyone back.

Yea that’s not really the “poppin” side of the strip...It slows down a lot from there till you hit Fremont st

You probly ain’t notice too much as a kid cuz you wasn’t worried bout what outside was lookin like, but generally the adults ain’t active like that in that area probly cuz it was known as some family stuff

There’s going to have to be a shift - millennials and Gen Z aren’t spending in Vegas like previous generations - we’d rather spend it on traveling/experiences which has really hurt Vegas.
And also These days the younger folks hittin Vegas to club and walk the strip for free, the things that look good for IG ...The pics of you out gambling or going to a show/nice dinner don’t hit the same so They ain’t spending on that

The crowd coming into vegas is bad, since the rates are low. That's why you see a fight at encore. I live in Vegas and avoid going to the strip now.

I spend a ton of time in LV and have not been since all this covid started. I have heard from multiple people that the visitors right now are rough around the edges to say it nicely.

just got back from there labor day, not worth it, rachets everywhere, clubs and pools want 2100 for reservations and the place damn near empty, did a pool party which was ok and fight happpen, when the marque club paid 2100 place was dead, best thing was the food and shooping dropped a bag on that, nothing like 2015 one my goat trips. i stayed at comos dope hotel

My buddy who lives there says it was ratchet because room prices were dirt cheap, even at luxury hotels. As for nightclubs, they are basically operating as high end lounges from what I hear. The traditional club experience won't be back for awhile, so it's going to come across as pretty boring compared to what you're used to. I've looked into the XS Lounge. A basic table is only $500 on a Friday. That's not even enough for a bottle (side note: I can see bottle service culture becoming a casualty of COVID).

As for Vegas overall, I think the budget and mid-tier casinos have no choice but to keep rates low for awhile, while the luxury hotels can filter their crowds pretty easily by raising rates back to normal. Unfortunately, that will keep the riff-raff flowing through Vegas for awhile. Combine that with high unemployement, and some extra federal UE dollars, and you have a recipe for disaster.

I’ve noticed a bunch of people making their way down to Tulum. I’m slick tempted to go see what it’s looking like.

I like to gamble so it sounds like it’d still be a good time, but if the atmosphere is weak it does take some of the fun away. I guess for the clubbers y’all should wait a while

How often do yall do things outside of the Strip? What are those things?

I always rent a car when I am out there just so I am not stuck.

Only thing I’ve ever done off the strip was pool parties at an Airbnb and gone atv riding in the desert.
