I remember I was vexed when the original version wasn't on Reasonable Doubt. Never was a fan of the version that made the album. I had the singles though so I was good.

Same here. Depending on the day might be top 3 for me.

Had wrote that in my OG post but for whatever reason the text got cut out when I pasted the video.

Straight raw :x

That last verse to me is Jay's best verse.

****** are coastin' the S.L. but can't post bail
****** are roast the L.
But scared to throw your toast well
I am here to tell ****** it ain't all swell
There's heaven then there's hell ******
One day your cruisin' in ya seven
Next day your sweatin' forgetin' your lies
Alibis ain't matchin' up, ******** catchin' up
Hit with the rico, they repo your vehicle
Everything was all good just a week ago
Bout to start *****in' ain't you
Ready to start snitchin' ain't you
I forgive your weak *** hustlin' just ain't you
Aside from the fast cars
Hunnies that shake they *** at bars
You know you wouldn't be involved
With the underworld dealers, carriers and mac-miller's
East-coast bodiers, west-coast cap peelers
Little monkey ****** turn gorilla's
Stopped in the station filled up on noctane
And now they not sane, and not playin'
That goes without sayin

That's what made Jay different

I always preferred this version

to this

Where I'm From is Jay in his rawest form

Anybody else notice his rap voice has dramatically changed?

Not sure what you're hearing the only thing that's really changed is the flow

Yeah but all highest elite rappers and rap groups had to drop a double album at some point

Surprised Eminem never did

Most rappers drop double disk albums to get out of thier deal since it counts as "two albums" Em deal too good to ever try and leave and drop a double needless to say the Carter 5 probably going to be a triple disk[emoji]128514[/emoji]

Voice sounds the same to me. And this album is amazing this is a smart *** dude... this was the only route he could take. and he killed it.

When my top back, I know I got that
But when I'm locked up, and I'm not back
And I collect call, will she accept that?
Will she stay down, through my setbacks?
Through my downfalls, and my downpours
When them FBI boys is coming down for us
I know you riding with a ***** through the Gucci store
All through Prada, but what if I had nada?
Would the babe even bother if the block got hotter?
In the never-ending game that puts the cops versus robbers?

When I fall off, and the drought hits
And it knocks me, out new outfits
And the charm you got gotta hit the pawn shop
And you feel like crying, but be strong and stop
It was all good just a week ago
Now I'm wearing the same clothes a week in a row

I don't really hear a difference in Jay's voice from then and now. If anything he rapped in a deeper tone back then. You listen to Imaginary Players or A Week Ago, he don't really rap in that tone no more.

Nah, it just became a trend.

Pac started the trend in Rap when he got out of jail. Money had so much energy and material in less than a month getting out of jail. (Some said it counted as two albums for his contract and some said it didn't)

Pac did it and it took off. Then the rest of rap followed. BIG, Wu Tang, Bone Thugs, Scarface, No Limit probably dropped 4-5 double albums between 96-99. Master P was wild with those double CDs and I think he was the first one with the Down South Hustlers compilation double album but that wasn't a mainstream hit like Pac's. Rap is just a copycat genre.

Never understood why he esentially threw this away (it ended being Fab's song). One of the better songs he had around that BP3 era along with Jockin Jay Z, and Brooklyn We Go Hard
