While the album's sound and substance are indeed utterly disappointing I agree that he was stuck inbetween a rock & a hard place and didn't have much of a choice but to realistically cave into Atlantic's requests.Originally Posted by AIRJORDAN JB23
Just something to remember to everyone complaining about the sound & substance...
You can almost gurantee Lupe didn't want to make an album like this at 1st... That's part of the reason why it didn't come out. Than everyone started complaining, requesting, fighting, for a release. He had no choice to do it... If he didn't agree to Atlantic than there wouldn't be an album. There was no middle ground here... It was either it releases how they want it, or he can hold his ground & it sits on a table for another 2 years & everyone will keep complaining why its not coming out.

In other words, in the long term this whole Lasers thing could turn out to be a positive.Originally Posted by FullMetal

I actually think it will have the opposite affect and Atlantic will become even more controlling with his future albums because they can say "see we know what sells." I hope that I am wrong though and he gets more creative control once again.Originally Posted by JD161616

Atlantic won
The Chicago-born rapper—real name Wasalu Muhammad Jaco—arrives with his third Atlantic Records studio album, Lasers, which will debut at #1 next week with between 220-240k in sales, the second biggest of the year next to Adele and the best start of his career.
Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor, his Grammy-winning 2006 debut, bowed at #8 with 81k sold, and went on to sell 350k. His second album, the multi-Grammy-nominated Lupe Fiasco’s Cool, debuted at #15 in Dec., 2007, selling 143k, going on to a total of more than 500k.
