Looking at the M&N size chart it looks like the champion ones run much smaller. Correct?

Going by that chart, yes, but M&N sizing has varied throughout the years. Where/when it was manufactured plays a part as well.
You asking about a particular jersey, or just in general?
A Champion M is a 40 (40"), L/44, XL/48 btw. 44s & 48s are considerably more common than the 40s though.

I had the same question about Champion sizing in the NBA jersey thread earlier this year. From what I was told, a Champion size 40 fits like a modern day M&N size 36.

Kinda kinda not, gotta know how to sell em. I only cop the warriors off these restocks, nuggets or that jazz one would have me probably cop but it's crazy cuz I passed on the jazz ones at $450
