7:35am: Word is that the Phillies have a Blanton deal in place with the Red Sox, tweets SI's Jon Heyman.  As one MLBTR commenter noted below, Boston's goal might have been to help facilitate Lee signing with a National League club.  The Red Sox could always flip Blanton in the coming months, taking that burden off the Phillies.

the real genius was how they were the initial mystery teams offering 7 years, just to create a stir, which allowed them to focus on crawford while others focused on lee, and also drove up the price on lee. which ended up not mattering, but still.

our FO has taken a LOT of heat from fans and local media, especially after henry bought liverpool. so i think henry was like, make some moves to quiet down the locals

What does it matter?  Not like the Cubs will do anything anyways.  But what a damn rotation that is.
