FYI, those purple 998s are back at Hibbett, FSR once again, but now at a lower price (just under $100, versus $112 earlier). So it's apparent that Hibbett did indeed pull the inventory when the 50% off sale began, to avoid selling them at $56
 
Never imported shoes before, but I’ve seen a few Japanese sellers on eBay with items I quite like lately. Is there a cutoff point of value before which I would not be looking at import duties/fees? Would I be stuck covering fees irrespective of price/claimed value?

As long as the product is under $800 USD then you should be just fine
 
Shipment from YCMC sale came in. The 498s are incredibly comfortable for the price and the leather is pretty decent. Also they look more sleek than stock photos would have you believe.

F'n hibbet. Put those 996s in my cart, and they showed up with the additional 25% discount. Tried to check out and failed, now the 25% is gone.

/edit. Figured it out, if you do store pickup, you'll get the additional 25% off, but not for shipping. Strange!
