hopefully im wrong and we stay contenders for awhile but all good things end ........

I was already telling myself in the late 1990s to prepare for years when the team was going on a slight downhill trend.

My brother still has vague memories of those Yankee teams of the 80s.

I know nothing about those 80 years other than what my family tells me...

With that said, I don't see any way we aren't one of the top 3 teams next year, once again challenging for a WS.

Look, you guys are the Yankees, you will never not be competitive cause you guys simply are in a different market capital wise than every other team.  Your owners will never be shy bout spending money and I can't blame them for that.  With that said though, this core is definitely not spring chickens right now, and cause of that I think you have no choice but to go for Lee.  No reason for the next 3 years you guys aren't contenders every season but after that this team is definitely going to enter somewhat of a transitional period, don't see how anyone could argue that.  But your window I think is 3 years with this core group and cause of that you need to go for Lee.  You can worry about the future later.

Because Mike Francesa will tell you to ignore his 5-plus ERA "because that is what you expect from a guy like him" and that his strikeouts will outweigh any negatives.

Yeah, okay.

Jorge de la Rosa (or "George of the Rose" as a co-worker once said) was said to be another alternative for the Yankees.  Gotta ask that co-worker about de la Rosa and whether he'd actually be a good fit.

The Yankees have a bunch of pitching in the minors...if they can't make a splash in free-agency maybe they have to hope their prospects can deliver.

Moseley is already 30 this upcoming season

Everyone has pitchers in their top 10 prospects..  Part of becoming fully ready for the majors is actually being called up to the majors and pitching..

I know Yankee fans are gonna deny this but this is the reality. The Yankees had a great run for a decade and this cycle is over.

Definitely. The Yankees are too old and have no young up and comers.

But hey, you never know.

Cubs interested in Wood, Johnson: report

12:42 PM, November 5, 2010 ι POST STAFF REPORT
The Cubs are expected to have interest in Yankees free agents Kerry Wood and Nick Johnson, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The report says the Cubs would ant Johnson to play first place "if the medicals look good."

Johnson returned to the Yankees to be their DH but missed most of the season after injuring his wrist. The team declined to pick up his option for next season.

Wood, a former Cubs phenom, was acquired by the Yankees in a trade with the Indians and served as the team's primary setup man for Mariano Rivera. The Yankees are thought to have interest at a lesser price than the $11 million option they declined.

Wood broke in with the Cubs in 1998 and played with Chicago until 2008.

''Everyone knows I have a wonderful relationship with Kerry, and that will be a life-lasting one,'' Cubs GM Jim Hendry said. ''But to get into specifics now ... would be foolish.''
