Pro shares I'm w/ you like 99% of the time but forreal yea Montero has nothing to do at the minor league level, but that's all b/c of his offensive production. Boy didn't blow through High A Ball and AA cause he was a plus defensive catcher. I think Romine is definitely solid behind the plate from what I've seen and in the Arizona league but I don't care who it is, it's just not really fair to expect much defensively behind the dish from anyone that's 22-23 these days (Buster Posey does not count)
The fact that Cervelli can hit with RISP is the biggest homer argument for him. I think most people who watch us without feeling a pull towards certain players will agree that Cervelli was..brutal, to put it nicely, from about July on. He had some big hits but defensively how much better was he than Posada? Not much. I love Jorge, always will, but he's a catcher, he was having a lot of trouble...catching the ball....not to mention his throwing but that's not really fair the guy was 38 and has already caught 1200+ innings.
For me, I'd rather see Cash bring back Jose Molina and have him mentor Jesus and/or Romine just to show them what he knows behind the plate in terms of calling a game and handling a pitching staff b/c for me, Molina is a top 7 defensive catcher in the league, if we're talking strictly defense.
