Ginebra plays depleted SMB

MANILA, Philippines - Danny Ildefonso and Marc Pingris were both meted a one-game suspension for attacking a fan in an ugly post-game incident Friday, leavingSan Miguel short-handed in Game Three of their best-of-seven showdown with Barangay Ginebra for the Motolite PBA Fiesta Conference championship at the AranetaColiseum today.

Ildefonso and Pingris were also assessed fines of P30,000 and P10,000, respectively, for their grave misconduct condemned by the San Miguel team managementitself.

In a statement, the San Miguel Beer team management said it "expressed regret over the incident and stressed it will never tolerate such kind of behavior,especially towards the fans who are the lifeblood of the PBA."

During their conference with commissioner Sonny Barrios at the PBA office, Ildefonso and Pingris were profuse in apologizing to the PBA, to the viewers and thefans. The two also wanted to personally apologize to the fan.

Ildefonso and Pingris serve their suspension today when the Beermen and the Kings dispute the 2-1 lead after splitting the first two games in the series.

The Kings drew first blood, 102-96, Wednesday then the Beermen got even, 95-78, Friday.

"It's not as lopsided as the final count suggests. But I think we did come out more prepared in Game Two," said San Miguel coach SiotTanquingcen.

Beaten on defense and on rebounds in the series opener, the Beermen turned things around Friday. But defense and rebounding would be major concerns of SMB onceagain with Ildefonso and Pingris out in Game Three.

The two accounted for nine rebounds in Game Two.

Minus the two, Tanquingcen will only have Gabe Freeman, Jay Washington, Dorian Peña and Samigue Eman to rotate at the frountcourt.

Ginebra coach Jong Uichico, however, said San Miguel remains a formidable team with the players left on its roster.

"We have to grind. They're still a potent team," said Uichico, adding the key for them is to keep the game close.

"They'll surely get their baskets. What we need to do is make it a little harder for them to shoot," said Uichico.

Tanquingcen, meanwhile, said they have to keep their poise and composure every step of the way.

"It's a given that the crowd will be for Ginebra. We have to keep our emotions in check whatever happens," said Tanquingcen.

The game was over and the players were heading to the dugouts when Ildefonso blew his top on verbal abuses by a Ginebra fan identified as Ferdinand Nervadez, a40-year-old businessman from Malabon.

"Actually, si Jay Washington ang minumura. Noong nagkatinginan kami, ako naman ang pinagmumura. Eh, tao lang, hindi ako nakapagpigil," saidIldefonso.

The two-time MVP winner went after the heckler at the gallery, followed by Pingris. Good thing, the Araneta Coliseum security forces and team officials wereable to stop the two players.

Ginebra assistant coach Art dela Cruz grabbed Ildefonso, stopping him from getting close to the fan.
 
although the suspensions and fines are merited,the PBA should've done more to protect their players against excessive heckling and verbal abuse fromfans.why was the fan allowed to go on with that kind of behavior?don't they have marshalls or security personnel during games?i guess the two dudes inyellow were them.but what they did was reactionary and not preventive.a PBA official should have walked up to the fan,gave him a stern warning and let him knowabout the real possibility of getting escorted out of the arena if he kept up what he was doing.the PBA has misgivings in this incident too.
 
i would personaly would like to see the three gentleman involved to be locked in a cage or room to settle their differences. Go SMB!

seriously the fan should say sorry too its one thing to curse at the players,but when their fam is involved e ibang usapan na un. tao din cla hehehe. same situation in the nba when away teams bring their fam in the home teams arena,pnag iinitan ung fam nung players. better curse at the players but not their family. its been a while since i watched a pba game live, i missed the magic singmicrophone mascot he reminds me of something else

i agree with you both, they should kick out unruly fans and pit them in a cage match with the player they've been cursing

okay ito ang chismis sa mga nabasa ko

the heckler is 40 year old ferdinand nervadez and is reportedly a businessman/professor from malabon (wow professor pa)
at first he was giving the smb players the dirty finger then shouting expletives at them the whole game (habang nag freethrow daw mga smb players sinosolid talaga)
after the game he started giving the finger and shouting expletives at the children and other relatives of washington and ildefonso
as for pingris, resbak lang siguro

kung ito talaga nangyari, i cant blame danny i. okay lang kung siya muramurahin, im sure expected na niya yun ginebra game e, pero nandadamay pa ng pamilya, bastusan na talaga.
a fine is more than enough, getting suspended for that in the finals is bs
kung suspend man nila, next season na.

they should start kicking out unruly fans, di porket nagbayad ng ticket pwede na magwala

one thing you should not do is to mess with these players and it's staff, not with these big teams... they have their muscle all over the gym with themanywhere they go.
do this guy thought that a high profile player like Danny I. goes to a game alone? wrong.. even in practice they have their entourage with them.
maybe you see them alone because nobody is beside them but there's always somebody who's watching them from a close by.
even college players are not allowed to go out of their school alone, just to avoid being approach by somebody that might influence their"performance".

these teams are known to take care of their players and staff's business, both in or out of the court whether their right or wrong.
i will not be surprise if something bad happen to this guy on this coming days.

sakto kitang kita sya sa camera.

buti nakapag pigil ako hehehe....
 
what bout the guy who taunt danny? did he said sorry? just not fair. all we hear is danny and marc publicly apologized. danny's posse should do somethingabout this. smb in 6!

Great Game..

I was about to "raise the roof" but Danny I. pulled a joey boy in his fast break,but it's good,he came out to play when it matters..

also major pain is a monster in the post.. Hontiveros raining 3s and Cool cat showing flashes of his old self.. i wonder what's JayJays injury, crampsmaybe..

hehe.. yup, bad late game decisions by jonas, forcing a 3 to beat the shot clock buzzer and missing a layup(although it's challenged)

David Noel with the free throws! good thing he hit the 3 on the next possession.. wow.. I can't wait for game 5 on monday..
