Official PC thread.

Asked this awhile back and decided to hold back on the purchase till now. So I want to build a HTPC that can run XBMC, watch local files and possibly some MS office stuff/internet surfing. I'm thinking of getting either of these options with a 64 gb SSD and 8gb Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856102053
Or

Just want to to know if I can do everything I specified with the i3 version with no problems or will I be better off with the i5 version. Another option is to build a HTPC from scratch. I don't want to spend more $550.
I3 version is fine. For media the graphics processor matters more and nowadays anything above Intel HD will do. Shoot for around $500 your better off making a small ITX system so you can also play games

Here is my pickup list from the Steam Winter Sale so far:

Booster Trooper 4-pack
Slam Bolt Scrappers + Dinosaurs Bundle
Tidalis
Twin Sector
Ultrabundle
Legend of Dungeon
Deadlight
Nation Red 4 pack
Alan Wake Franchise
Bad Rats
Fowl Space
Razor2: Hidden Skies
Two Tribes Bundle
Frozenbyte Collection
Unstoppable Gorg
Time Gentlemen
Super Meat Boy
Prison Architect
Hitman: Absolution

I have one copy of Nation Red and one copy of Booster Trooper left. Whoever wants em just shoot me a pm and it's yours.

How come it seems like many of my games don't have 1920x1080 resolution settings. Seems like most games have 1600x900 as the max. Is it my monitor or gpu/CPU or is 1600x900 the norm?

Check your monitor plugs and drivers. That shouldnt happen.

Can you point me in the right direction? I'm pretty new to this. Only reason I am leaning towards the nuc is because it's so small and I don't want a huge tower.

I actually built my first HTPC earlier this year ....got me a free AMD A6-6600k Black Edition Chip when i was at E3 ...scrap up some old part and toss them into a Silverstone ML04 case....Loving it

Either option. As long as it is within my budget, does the small tasks I specified and is in a small case. I want it to sit close to my tv.
Here is something simple for $450. Just grab a keyboard, mouse and a controller. If you wanna really game on it then grab r7 250 or just upgrade the CPU to the A10-7850K when it drops then enjoy.

The case is something simple and small. I prefer silverstone and would recommend the SG05/6 and PSU

Does anybody know when this is coming out? If not can someone point me to a similar looking case?

@Milestailsprowe  you seem like you know your PC stuff pretty well. Think you could help me get a good gaming PC on a budget? I am not tech savvy at all

I just want a PC so I can play a few games like Phantasy Star Online 2, FF XIV: RR, a few shooters here and there. I'm not looking to build one myself just don't know what kind of specs, setup I need as far things like RAM, core processor etc. Thanks for any advice you may provide

Define Budget? Building your own on a budget starts around $500 and ends up being around $600 once mic, controller, keyboard and mouse get involved. Thats counting if you HAVE NOTHING to recycle and reuse.

For a prebuilt like you want its gonna cost around $700+ but you get warranty through one company and all that.

Another option is to order your parts from the website NCIX and you can pay them $50-$100 to assembly and test it for you if you purchase all parts through them. They will also cover it in a warranty.

Is there a GTX 800 series coming out any time soon?

Might pick up the new 750 Ti.

Summer time should be around the right time but thats guessing and if your grabbing the 750 ti I would suggest the 265x instead for more performance. The 750ti is for low wattage systems

I'm considering the 770 but don't want to buy it if the 800s will be out soon after

Waiting on stuff isnt worth it alot of times. Just grab a used one for lower cost if you wanna save some cash till the new stuff drops or try to catch a deal.
