I made it back in april, I felt a huge sense of speed since i was upgrading from a 7 year old pentium 4 with 512mb of ram and a radeon 9600. haven't tried overclocking since i built it but i got good scores on prime95.
Running Battlefield 3 on DX11 will be no sweat

how much did you pay?
back in April it cost me about $1050, I hadn't had a new comp in 10 years so I bought this one with the thought that it'll also last me another 10 years

This should be a good build for a basic workstation

if you think I should go a hundred or 2 more lmk, will cop this by parts
This build has a slighty faster cpu w/ overclock abilites & a bigger ssd, you can lower the price by 54.99 if you dont think you'll need the extra 1TB of storage. Although I've read that if your going to be doing 3D Rendering you'll need a workstation GPU rather than a regular desktop GPU

Get bigger power supply at least 650 and drop the MSI board , when you recieve it it will be DOA then your going to have to RMA it 3 or 4 times before you get 1 that boots.

save money on the SSD, raid the 1tb drives and get a better GPU.

and yeah what slade said, 650 watt PSU.. u'll be able to upgrade your components without worrying about needing more power in the future. and why are you giving this man a micro atx tower for an atx board?

http://www.newegg.com/Pro...ster+storm+scout&x=0&y=0

40 dollars more, better case and one where your motherboard will actually fit.

knew i was overlooking something
& does he really need a better gpu if he' using it manly for autocad?

Edit: Dropped the ssd, changed the mobo, psu & case

COOLER MASTER Storm Scout SGC-2000-KKN1-GP
Antec NEO ECO 620C 620W (you'll need a power cable if you dont have a spare)
or for $5 more XIGMATEK NRP-PC702 700W although i trust Antec a bit more.
Intel BOXDZ68DB LGA 1155 Intel Z68

Finally installed some liquid cooling, was getting some overheating messages and I've had no issues since (and quiet). I would update my video card but I really have no need to at this point.

Sorry for the cell phone pic.

Water cooling what are you running? and what case is that?

looks like corsair H50, it's basically noob water cooling, but it does the job. i have one cooling my i5.
Corsair H50, was on sale on amazon. Don't see the need to spend a penny more if it runs extremely quietly and gets the job done (excellent reviews). Anything more is a waste imo unless you're a hardcore gamer.
Enclosure is the NZXT PHantom (in black obviously)

I should of went ahead and got that H50 like I had planned instead of the Noctua. I doubt I'm ever really going to OC my cpu so all the extra performance the Noctua puts outs isn't even being used for real

is autocad not gpu intensive more than CPU?

more like hardcore overclocker. For gamers, the gpu is the most important part.

I've read that its more CPU intensive than GPU intensive unless he's doing 3D rendering, in which case he would need a workstation GPU rather than a regular desktop gaming on like the 6770 which should be ok for 2D/3D drawing & modeling

gotcha, i always figured it would rely more on the GPU. but for the price of that 6770, why not just get a 460? if he ever wanted to upgrade to a gaming pc, getting another 460 would make games look awesome

True, although he'll need a different board than the Intel i recommended. Up to him whether he wants to spend the extra $
