It always takes someone terrible to bring about dictatorial behavior like coup attempts into the mainstream political discourse.
It couldn't have been someone other than Trump because of all our current political actors in the last 20 years, none has been so apt at distorting the truth as him. He is the only one who could successfully erode the trust that a critical mass of people put in the electoral system. Still, he couldn't have done it without the prepping of the base by the GOP through their fear-and-outrage-based media.
The GOP put themselves in the position where repudiating Trump would have gone against their main message of grievance that they've fed the base since Fox News came on the air: that the liberal elites wanted to suck the "real Americans" dry. Because the leadership was still grounded in reality, they would never cross the line and attack the institutions themselves. The leadership understood that these political institutions guaranteed the social and economic stability needed by their main supporters (the wealthy and the business class) to thrive. Trump has never had such hangups; the man has been succeeding within chaos, thriving through failures, and grown more visible despite bankruptcies; that's why he has never had an issue crossing the "elections are rigged" line.
Lindsey was halfway right about Trump destroying the GOP. He didn't see how he would destroy more than the GOP.

im trying to think of the best way to say it..
but obviously Reagan and the bushs/Cheney played significant roles in getting to his point, hell even Richard nixon.. all had significant scandals and lies but clearly didn’t have this level of volume.. also the whole Clinton/lewisky thing set up how republicans would deal with shh, got men married 3 times the loudest ones crying shame
and Fox News/murdoch have had time to refine what they do, not only in the US.. and their spawns have also grown
but I just look at the quality of his lies, like dumb stuff like his constant claims the military had no ammunition or that he signed something obama signed back in 2014.. and being ”the greatest” of everything
but the volume also somehow helps him since the current shh will be forgotten soon enough by the other shh that is inevitably coming real soon
but from the GOP perspective and the future, I just wonder where they go from here.. cause I can’t see any of the trump kids pulling this off.. Cruz or Marco cant.. clearly gym and Rick Scott can’t.. and I doubt desantis.. maybe hawley, but he might have sank himself.. I guess it’ll have to be someone from the outside who just takes advantage of the shh, again
