Normally that's my demand but since it had little value to individuals other than Krit, I decided I'd set aside my normal standards. I assumed they presumably wouldn't have trusted me if I didn't go first, at least I certainly wouldn't if I was the manager.
I always set out the following guidelines for deals:
- Show proof of funds on mobile to know the username (I censor them publicly)
- If you lowball and don't quickly rectify with a serious offer, you're swiftly getting blocked. Lowballers disgust me.
- Buyer pays up first, only exceptions for repeat buyers I'm on good terms with
- Payment has to be in Bitcoin or Paypal, preferably BTC, and I only send the account info after receiving proof on mobile of the payment
Buyers can also request a middleman if for some reason they don't trust me but they pay the middleman's fee.
I have a rock solid reputation from back in 2014-2016 so people always go first to me. When you're just starting out, nobody's going to pay first if you have no reputable vouches for your trustworthiness.
I've only gotten scammed twice in all those years. Once for $50 when I first started and then Krit's manager.
There was this one time where a buyer was clearly trying to scam me but I reverse scammed him.
I was selling the Kik username D5 and expected offers around $250-300 but this guy approached me with a $600 offer and he'd pay up first with Paypal. Obviously he was later going to file an 'unauthorized access' chargeback claim to get Paypal to refund his money but I made sure to take screenshots and meticulously guide him into saying things that completely undermined such a chargeback claim.
A couple days later, I unsurprisingly got the notification that he filed a chargeback claim with Paypal, trying to get his $600 back. I swiftly won the dispute so instead of scamming me, that idiot paid $600 for a username he'd be lucky to get $300 for
And to give you an idea of how far some people are willing to go get a fancy rare username, it's not unusual that I get offers like this for my Twitch username, which I will continue to decline to honor my agreement with Twitch. Usernames under 4 characters normally aren't allowed and the only other username with just numbers under 4 characters is 007, which is owned by an admin. So it's by far the rarest account not owned by Twitch administrators.
Its value is more in the $3500-4000 range though. I'm on good terms with the guy below and he was serious. Earlier this week he tried to offer $2500 Bitcoin + an Xbox Gamertag worth around $800-1000 for it.
