I felt this...

i dont know if it’s a black thing... or a Caribbean thing

but will be in a public place like any public place and people walk in and say good morning, good afternoon, good evening, good day, good whatever else

and the whole room responds

not going lie, when I went stateside for high school.. was one of the weirdest things, not being reprimanded for not being polite upon entering a room.. then it was couple other shh

Did you have to stand? I am pretty sure that was a thing in American schools growing up. When another adult walks in the room, you have to stand up and say “Good Morning/Afternoon Mr. IATT”.

not in the US

in primary school, if another teacher came in, we had to stand as a classs and say “good _____ mr _______”


but Im talking just being in the gas station and someone pops in

i had to get out of the habit of just walking in a room and saying “good _____”

American culture has so many places where you can deindividuate. So many people like to be invisible. Pretend they can just be anywhere at any time and be untouchable, unassailable, like their privilege means they are above having to be a living breathing being whose words and actions and presence means something.

And I love my black elders who center you in where you are and who you are and maintain the structure of respect and blah blah blah you get the point I'm making.

Semi related but I can't stand when you call a white person and they just go "what".

This is reallllllly getting old fast. Prayers out to my asian brethren goin thru this. Keep ur cool, make sure the elderly in your family are armed with bear spray at a minimum. When these mouth breathing knuckle dragging incels are rolling around on the ground frothing from the eyes and the mouth maybe thell think twice before acosting a stranger
