I think we need to stop treating the US political media, especially those outlets that focus on sensational breaking news instead of the analysis of day-to-day stuff, as if they are not aware of the role they are playing in elevating and maintaining the focus on certain narratives.
I don't think they care about not devaluing journalism. They only use the "we're a pillar of democracy" when the ire of the State is turned in their direction.
