***Official Political Discussion Thread***

like, can you imagine how much better life for the average American if THE FLOOR was $44/hr? how much happier, less stressed, less desperate? the lower crime rates, the better schools, the magnet trains paid for with taxes?

hell, imagine how much differently COVID goes?

...but people still look at me cross-eyed when I say somebody making 80k is underpaid.
Changing the education and medical system alone changes life as we know it. Why people think paying 5K for a hospital visit with no issues is better than not paying anything is just amazing. If college with purely academic based and not a “pay to play” endeavor how many more people would go?

I listen to the Weeds podcast today after giving myself a break from Mathew Yglesias sorry ***. Mans is a wonkish Bill Maher at this point

Came back today and the dude said some of the major problems with the discourse about race on the left is that people fail to acknowledge how much progress has been made (more of course the 1960s). Like more interracial marriage, Obama becoming president, America is more diverse, and American elite is more diverse, is more tolerant. And then he transitions with the issue of some people having an issue with a school being renamed after him, to circle back to some point to say he can't understand why someone would want to be in a movement of losers, that tells themselves nothing will get better.

He rich white guy, who has been rich all his life, can't understand what draws people into certain forms of activism that call outs the persistent problems in America.

It has always been funny to me that white people exist that a) champions the process the country has made and b) bemoans the forces that made it possible.

The whole conversation was basically saying activists are ruining the Democratic Party, and they (not the Democratic Party but activists) need to focus on a brand of politics that appeals "white" working-class people.

The conversation could have been insightful, in some places it was, but instead, it was same old ********.

Bro they've just showed a minor testifying the Derek Chauvin trial via photos by having her circle herself in the picture...lawsuit inbound.

Didn’t plan to keep up with the trial, but how does that dude that tried to tell the cops that Mr. Floyd was dying seem to be holding up? Not while giving testimony, but just in general. To know that a man is dying and trying to prevent it, but knowing if you get involved physically, you’ll likely be shot has to be a lot to carry.

There’s a world where Buju Banton & Lil Nas X exist...and can be enjoyed mutually.

For what it’s worth, the song by Lil Nas X is terrible. The video a clear attention grab...but nonetheless interesting and thought provoking in some senses. He did what he did, for the reaction that came. Predictable as hell. But THEY went for it again.

People are really stupid and reactionary. My takeaway these days.

He's Tekashi-ish on the low. Great marketing and shock grabbing tactics. Inevitably will fade though if he keeps making wack music.

It's like Chris Hayes said back when millions of Texans couldn't afford power, GOP politicians can't govern because their main qualification is **** posting and, I suppose, every now and again voting for ALEC's mass produced assaults on voting and reproductive rights.
