***Official Political Discussion Thread***

“Moving to the left” shouldn’t be defined as providing basic social services to tax paying citizens when the country can VERY clearly afford it. I don’t know how we got to a place where being “moderate” means supporting a bloated defense budget, lowering taxes on rich people and saying “oh well, hope poverty doesn’t kill you” to fast food and convenience store workers.

Obamacare is not BBB, like I said do you think when these half funded programs expire after being sabotaged by republicans and the state level

do you think they will rebound in popularity like Obamacare?
Was this argument not made against Obamacare? Republicans couldn't kill it because Americans don't want to go back to insurance companies telling them they've reached their lifetime spending with them and they're gonna be dropped.

These programs, as half-assed as they are, are a lifeline for an untold number of Americans.

I don't think voters are as stupid as you describe.

I work with Trump voters who believe that he supports the American worker and actually wanted to bring back 1950s-style manufacturing here, even though everything he makes comes from China.

They're that stupid.

but I do not think that move further to the left on policy is going to do it.

Other than going up or down, the only direction left will be where the blue dog Democrats sit, and
and I think you underestimate the number of americans who are mostly comfortable with the status quo
and do not want large upheavals in american welfare state policy.
Sorry, but you just don't understand what the status quo means in this country then.

I fail to see comfort in people's eyes when they have to pay the equivalent of mortgages to send kids to childcare, have to incur five-six figure debts to get educated, and when they cancel medical procedures because they can't pay for them even with insurance.

I was wondering what happened to Tomi, I was worried for a second that RustyShackleford RustyShackleford had her locked up in his basement somewhere
Literally the same exact situation:

We need to go rescue all the poor disenfranchised Patriots from RustyShackleford RustyShackleford 's basement of Conjecture.

letting a program expire and actively killing it are two different things.

and republicans came within a jon mccain thumbs down away from grievously harming obama care.

if you think they'll have trouble sitting on their hand passively letting programs expire.
programs that might not even be popular...

i think that's fantasy

the contempt you have for your fellow american...
I think yes people are busy and they don't know the details of global trade

I don't think west virginians think they are voting for universal basic income when they elect republican supermajorities.

my opinion isn't relevant.
im going by what americans choose.
and judging by what they choose.
I don't see this burning desire for massive alterations in the welfare state.

moderate politicians perform better than ideologically extreme ones.
Donald Trump doesn't win if he doesn't moderate on social security and cutting medicare.
do nothing republican governors who basically preserve the status quo are wildly popular.

when blue states try to do stuff like single payer like vermont, it crashes and burns
and then a republican governor gets elected.

cling to these issue polls if you want.
but id look at them with a pretty jaundice eye given electoral outcomes.

Joseph Manchin is MY SENATOR AND YOUR SENATOR TOO. He knows what Coal Bros like myself need and want and it isn't handouts from libs. We'd use those handouts for drugs. I say this as a proud West Viriginian that lives in the Western most town in West Virginia known as Denver, Colorado. mplsdunk mplsdunk already has seen just how beautiful WV is and we have legalized Mary Jane because libs don't want to work in da mines.

Country roads, take me home, to the pla... WHAT YOU DOIN ROUND HERE BOY?

:lol my boy went out there to buy a motorcycle from some rich libs, anyways this dude followed him 10 minutes to their house and he's like "I think that dude is following me" they say "yeah he's weird af and does that"

then they just told him to kick rocks and he casually waves like he's protecting everyone. creepy *** hillbilly.
