The seemingly sudden wealth drew the attention of Congressional Democrats, including New York Rep. Ritchie Torres, who tweeted "George Santos, a former call center employee falling behind on his rent, lent his campaign a staggering $705,000. Where did all that money come from?"

Excuse me?

Yeah this just screams fraud.
A company that he actually did work for got charged with running a $17m ponzi scheme not long after he left.
His new own company then suddenly made between $3.5 to $11m in the one year it was activate. It was forced to shut down due to not filing paperwork.

He can’t even properly explain the job he’s supposed to be doing.

This is his ‘explanation’:
For reference,Devolder is that company he founded

Santos said that Devolder was also in the capital introduction business, including “deal building” and “specialty consulting” for “high net worth individuals.”

As an example of his work, he said a client might want to sell a plane or a boat. “I'm not going to go list it and broker it,” he said. “What I will do is I will go look out there within my Rolodex and be like: ‘Hey, are you looking for a plane?’ ‘Are you looking for a boat?’ I just put that feeler out there.” He said he had a network of wealthy investors, family offices, “institutions” and endowments that included about 15,000 people. Within the first six months of starting Devolder, he said he “landed a couple of million-dollar contracts.”

“If you’re looking at a $20 million yacht, my referral fee there can be anywhere between $200,000 and $400,000,” he said.

These kinds of intermediaries have been around forever. Every year I have to complete compliance training about how to deal with them (high level: don’t). So it’s a real thing, but one you usually associate with fairly corrupt nations.

Some people who have gotten away with murder forever think they are invincible. Well…. **** about to hit the fan.

I guess that’s what confuses me about it - I don’t think he has quite gotten away with it yet in large part because he keeps making it worse  Eventually there’s going to be someone higher up in his chain of command who gets pressure put on them, ultimately leading to Santos having to get out of the paint.

If he stayed quiet as opposed to publicly acting so shameless, brazen and unapologetic about it then it might have blown over but this man is willing trying to be all up in the videos every single news cycle. It makes zero sense to me

Okay, yes, he's a fraud, BUT, how did the opponent's team not do one single iota of due diligence on this guy? They accepted him at face value, which is even more embarrassing. His life is easily debunked, and nobody bothered to even check? Christ. The GQP would have been all over everything if the shoe was on the other foot. The Dems can't get out of their own way because they just trust the other side, and lost a house seat because of it.

Well that’s kind of the the thing…he lied about such banal aspects of his life (where he went to school, his mothers death, his religion) that they could be easily overlooked in oppo research because they’re looking for true dirt and not necessarily performing a security clearance level check. There is also the fact that a lot of it appears to be hidden in/discovered through inconsistencies with his tweets. I am not sure for political candidates of this era if they have their teams scrub the entire social media history or not.
