Backlash from who?

the electorate.

anti immigrant policies sound fine in theory.
but if they really do it people will be mad.

the same thing happened during the first trump presidency.
the public turned on immigration once he did family seperation.

Despite the many advantages that immigrants bring—such as filling labor gaps, contributing to innovation, and enriching cultural diversity—there is often resistance from communities who fear that newcomers may disrupt the status quo. This discomfort is not limited to one region or group but is found in varying degrees worldwide, from racial discrimination to religious intolerance. People, by nature, may find it difficult to accept others who do not fit their social and cultural mold, and this can create significant friction in societies trying to balance integration with preservation of their traditional values. While progress is being made in some areas, overcoming these ingrained biases remains a challenging and complex issue for many countries.

Yeah the crazy thing that people don’t want to say out loud is that illegal immigration unethically benefits businesses and consumers.

Essentially, they provide a cheap labor force with little/no rights (and even the rights they have, many will not speak up about abuses out of fear of being deported). Even corporations can maneuver around it by contracting out work to contractors who would subcontract out labor contracts to those who hire illegal immigrants. This leads to cheap labor and lower prices, especially on goods/services needing unskilled labor as part of the process (think construction, farming, moving services, cleaning services, etc. etc.).
People who complain about rising grocery prices also support policies that deport the very workforce that helps keep those prices low. The contradiction is laughable. This highlights the divide between the "educated" and "non-educated" groups. It’s frustrating because the logic is clear, yet some people fail to recognize it, even when the evidence is right in front of them. There's always a but...

How much do we have to coddle people?Logic doesn't reach these people but racism and xenophobia clearly does. "They're taking your jobs, your rights, your stuff..."

This will seem every extreme, but people have just been as vile and nasty on the other side but a little part of me can't wait for these old boomers and politicians to expire so we can finally progress but now even Gen Z is trending to be like just them. We millennial are just stuck in between :{

May I ask, are you Hispanic, or do you have close connections within the Hispanic community? Are you familiar with their key concerns and the topics that resonate within Hispanic media? I’m genuinely interested because it seems you’re viewing these issues as minor or irrelevant, and I’d like to understand the basis of that perspective. Although my Spanish is limited, I watch Spanish-language news and follow different viewpoints, and it’s clear that these are genuine and important issues within the Hispanic community. So, I’m curious about where you’re sourcing your information and why there seems to be a degree of dismissal toward these concerns.

In summary, she addressed several talking points, highlighting that the Democratic Party has, for 35 years, made promises to the Hispanic community without substantial follow-through. She also criticized what she described as Kamala Harris's "woke agenda," which she argued is misaligned with Hispanic values on morals, religion, education, and gender identity. Additionally, she suggested that the Democratic Party appears weak and in need of stronger leadership and lastly, inflation.

This woman is more upset about the prices at the grocery store. Literally said that they care more about how much money they have in their pockets. Hell even women didn't care enough to vote Harris to make sure that they have rights to their own bodies.

This election came down to blaming dems for everything being more expensive. All the other stuff is just BS so they can say it's not just about the money. I have a family member who voted trump and the main reason is because he thinks that he's going to make more money and pay less for groceries. Blames Biden and said Harris didn't do anything when she was VP and nothing was going to change and just repeats what trump says all the time. Have told/showed him numbers on jobs and the economy/immigration and he says it's fake news. He believes that all the spending cuts trump is proposing are going back to the people :smh:

Unfortunately this country is full of people that are uneducated and over worked. They don't have time to look up the facts or have a basic understanding of how government works. People rather blame the next person on the state of affairs than look at the real issues.

The dems need to find a way to dumb down their message cause this country is cooked right now when it comes to understanding government and critical thinking. That's why we have people using Joe Rogan as a source to politics...like come on man...

according to this apartments are illegal to build on 39% of the land in pittsburgh

30% only single family homes, 9% two unit homes.

not quite as bad as toronto but pretty bad.

Pittsburgh, in particular, I a bit more nuanced than this. But this isn’t really the time or place for a deep dive.

Suffice it to say, the current population is about half its peak so aggregately housing supply is not the issue.

I try to be sympathetic but I just don't get adin Ross's appeal.

I get the appeal of most online people, even the ones I hate.

.I don't get it with adin Ross. Dude has very little charisma. Is obviously dumb, isn't doing like wild and crazy antics like those other irl streamers.

I don't get it.

Like I said in August/September, Kamala should've done media then. I wasn't necessarily thinking Rogan or whatever, but she had to be out there to (re)introduce herself and her policies to the masses.

Maybe she could have distanced how people viewed how close to Biden she was ( highly doubt it) but it looks pretty clear nothing was going to change people's minds on Inflation, The economy and Immigration.

Now that I've had a couple of days to think about it I'm starting to think this was an unwinnable race regardless of the strategy or candidate.

- inflation, immigration and pushback on "woke"
- only having around 3 or 4 months to build a policy platform, campaign and find a VP
- Trump popularity because of the assassination attempt
- Kamala faced particular issues because she was tethered to the Biden administration as she was a part of and she would never be able to distance herself from it

At the end of the day, there are millions of Americans who feel like they were better off under President Trump than Biden and that is nearly impossible to overcome as a candidate.

There is a reason why a lot of the 2028 presidential hopefuls didn't welcome throw their hat in the ring. They viewed it as a suicide mission (and they were right).

I think Democrats could have had and Obama level candidate running a perfect campaign and they still would have lost given the short timeline and could opinions for the job Biden is doing. I don't think being on the Joe Rogan podcast the week before the election would have changed anything.

There isn't much Democrats for any presidential candidate could have done about inflation. It's global issue. I was in Spain for a couple of days and they were talking about the inflation a experienced. Same goes for the UK in Canada. Unfortunately most of voters don't understand this and they blame the current administration for it.

I do criticize the Biden administration for lack of action on immigration when they had the White House, Senate and House from 2020-22. They didn't have to build the wall but they had to do something and they literally did nothing while knowing this was one the top issues for voters.

What aree xamples of this?
ACA vs Obamacare.

They loved one, hated the other, and they're the same program.

This.

Democratic perception of know-it-alls and pride and ignorance rolled up into a living, breathing, mass of US citizens.

Isaac Asimov predicted this, unfortunately..

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.

I'll go ahead and share the grand conspiracy theory (sort of) on illegal immigration in this election cycle. Not my own but something I saw some fairly expert person discussing and seems to make a lot of sense. Not sure if discussed here previously

There is a concerted effort by Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua to de-stabilize the United States by using illegal immigration as a strategic weapon. Around 2 years ago Nicaragua dropped pretty much all visa requirements for a host of countries that are considered net exporters of migrants. Over that period of time we have seen a dramatic spike in charter flights to Managua from various non-traditional locations (Haiti, Cuba,India, Africa, etc)

The Ortega regime has turned that business into a cash cow charging immigrants $200 a piece to pass through the country. They land at the airport and get whisked to the border by bus. It's estimated that about 10-15% of new arrivals here have come through this gateway. Ortega in his latest declarations has tipped his hand and said how the US is evil for trying to restrict immigration

In that same time frame we have seen a surge of Venezuelans leave their country. Historically Venezuleans have fled to other LatAm countries (Peru, Colombia and Chile are all estimated to have at least 1 MM Venezuleans). The Darien Gap in the Panamanian jungle use to be considered the physical barrier that protected North America from mass immigration. In the past 18 months the human traffickers have found ways to conquer this passage and get people across Panama (on to Costa Rica and then the rest of Central America)

Cuba ebbs and flows in their stance on emigration. When political protests flashed last year, they opened the pressure valve of allowing dissidents to leave (usually through the Nicaragua route)

All three of these countries see a triple win in generating emigrants. Getting rid of political dissidents/opposition, boosting remittance revenue, and driving the US crazy. To this point there has been no downside for them, though recently the Biden admin has started going after the Nicaraguan regime for human trafficking

The Russians understand the MAGA psyche very well. We have been hearing about the dangers of illegal immigrants in the US in an augmented way since the beginning of this election cycle

Of course you add in all of that on top of regular migration flow. It's such a great political football for the MAGAGOP that they will fight tooth and nail not to solve the issue. As long a they have it they can drum up support

can you point to a time and place where there was a well-educated, informed populace who were not being manipulated by mass media?
The French don't take their tabloids seriously.

They have, time and time again, rejected the populism of the far-right, despite not having greater options, and when they have flirted with extremist policies, it has always been as a warning to the ruling party. People should look into the long history of the National Front and its failures to gain power, despite being platformed in the French media for a very long time.

My point is, Americans shouldn't value candidate personalities more than the ideas they defend. Unfortunately, they do, and most importantly, they refuse to be questioned about their convictions. This is why, unlike much of the world, having political discussions in public is extremely frowned upon in this country.

That's the attitude that has to change.

Fetterman needs to get on it. Accelerated deportation in orderly style - the adios act.
The issue is you still have to process people who are deported and deport them to the correct places while going through the legal system (even without an asylum case). You can’t just dump people in whatever random countries you want, otherwise we would ironically be helping them illegally immigrate to those other countries lol
