Hakeem Jeffries is technically "new leadership", but yeah. Pelosi needs to move on.
Technically, yes.
But it wasn’t in response to a defeat. Overall, Dems basically won 2022.
She stepped down because she was too damn old to stay as speaker but she’s still a major player in the decision making process.
But clearly her belief, that you must be over 70 and/or in Israel’s back pocket to be in leadership, still has a lot of pull at the highest levels of the party.
BTW I’m not looking to trash her whole career. She has done some great work. Her work on the ACA alone saved 10,000s of lives by now. Moreover she back Tim Walz before the donor class castrated him. She’s no Krysten Sinema (how you spell it? Actually don’t care because that vile Judd Aptow style trick will be the most annoying person at her Bali coworking space/meditation retreat this time next year)
But seeing Pelosi but forth this much effort to deny essentially a symbolic victory to both the left and also a politician who has major cross over appeal with his most gettable supporters.
Moreover, AOC could use oversight to both advance her career but also to shake this narrative (largely held by us chronically online degenerates but nevertheless the narrative is out there) that she’s this out of touch college educated (gasp, only billionaire’s kids go to college, after all) elite who is only interested in boutique issues (like having a habitable planet, in 50 years, something that only will affect readers of The New Yorker, after all) and doesn’t care about the little guy.
As the ranking member of oversight, she could really only throw out great sound bites but those would be better and more impactful than whichever 8,000 Irish bog creature that Pelosi is trying to foist on us.
If Democrats win the house in 2026, and she becomes the leader of the committee, she can set the agenda and grill Trump administration corruption as well as employers who are ****** towards hourly employees. And she could also do things, as congress member at large, like put forth bills that create federal regulations to guarantee PTO for workers currently without it.
She could get nominated for President as the people’s champion for President or as a powerful surrogate for someone else.
Pelosi is already helping whoever the 2028 GOP nominee. Again, for a nobody.
Oh and also, she slip and broke her hip yesterday. The universe clearly has endorsed AOC. She already got the Hispanic and progressive caucus. CBC, end this fight and embrace dynamism.
(I did not mean to turn a short reply into a big rant, lol)
