***Official Political Discussion Thread***

I'm trying to be a less petty person this year but...

Oklahoma education leaders approved a plan on Tuesday to request proof of citizenship or immigration status from families when they enroll their children in public schools. The rule would supply the Trump administration with information to aid immigration enforcement.

Oh, this totally feels like a hostile takeover with a dash of dictatorship. I mean, unless these politicians finally grow a spine and actually do something, we’re heading straight for America’s grand meltdown. And sure, you might think it’s not your problem, but trust me, anyone who’s not living in the lap of luxury is already feeling or about to feel the full brunt of these changes. Remember how we had that mental health crisis during COVID? Well, buckle up because this one's going to make that look like a walk in the park.

PS. I don't mean the Democrats but the Republicans that are playing along.

This **** is sad, not funny. I've got several coworkers that I'm friendly with who unfortunately think this way. Was just talking to a guy yesterday and he was confidently telling me that he thinks he is different. He worked hard and earned his place here (been here like 30 years). "It's all of these new people that are coming in" that are "lazy" and get all of the assistance that he didn't, and they deserve what is coming to them.

He is convinced that they're only going after "criminals" and that he's safe. I had to remind him about how he told me he was a crack addict for the first few years he was in the US, after crossing illegally, and that he told me he has a DUI on his record and is driving every day on an expired license. Zero awareness for how precarious of a position he is actually in, and that even though he may think that "criminal" means murderers and grapists, everyone who got here "illegally" is within that category to the people calling the shots right now, and they're casting a wide net as soon as they get in any door, whether home or business.

Donald Trump and Tom Homan don't distinguish between someone who came here under asylum from Haiti two years ago or someone who came from El Salvador 30 years ago.

A grown man addicted to the same app my 13 year old god daughter is actually trying to call people childish

Dude came in her ****ting on people, practically advocating that they lose their jobs

But takes issue because I am not sufficiently nice to them

Nah, spare me that ********

I never advocated that. I just said the federal government is overbloated and inefficient.

I love you unc. Let’s put this behind us 😍

Damb I didn’t know that, I figured you’d be the first target.

Good

Oh we’re still a huge target lol. Trust that. It’s coming eventually.

But we’re also written into the Constitution, so it’ll be harder to get rid of us. Obviously the Constitution doesn’t mean **** to Trump or anyone behind the scenes, but it at least provides a more difficult path to ******* with us.

But you’ve already seen the plan with DeJoy the Postmaster General that Trump installed last term—consolidate mail processing facilities to where it eliminates jobs and forces people to quit due to having to travel long distances just to get to work, slow the mail delivery standards AND raise prices. Oh, and create a workforce of non-career employees that you can pay less and provide worse benefits. And it’s working—the complaints about mail delivery now are wild. I just wish folks understood it isn’t the employee’s fault. There are definitely lazy workers here, but it’s mostly just folks trying to do the best with what they’re given.

The target EVP that ended the DEI program. Wonder what the motive of this is.

I'm really guessing she's just a puppet and was voluntold to end it. But you never know.

I’m proud to say that my new employer is not killing DEI and communicated to us they have no plan in doing so. Glad I joined a company that not only seems to be treating its employees great but also cares about how they feel and important initiatives to many.
I would like to think a company with a competent leadership team would still hire the best qualified candidate available regardless of ethnicity or gender. Glad your company isn't killing it off.

Yeah I remember him doing that and doesn’t the president of your union have cancer and just goes MIA for months at a time when you are in the middle of negotiations?

Some days my mail doesn’t come but I know you guys are getting screwed and understaffed, I see them out super late working crazy hours.

You’re thinking of the NALC (letter carriers) union President, and yep, he sucks. Not sure about cancer, but yeah carriers don’t speak fondly of him. Especially after he recently was tooting his own horn about securing them a 1.3% wage increase for carriers.:smh:

I’m APWU and we have a pretty solid union, thankfully. Could be better, but it’s the best in USPS. Without it I wouldn’t work here—management already tries to do what they want knowing we have rights. Couldn’t imagine how it’d be here if we had zero protections. That said, I work in a craft that doesn’t touch mail, so they mostly leave us alone and let us do our thing.
