All is not lost. Democrats can still flip the House before 2026.

It may be a good thing that Trump is moving so fast in enacting his most unpopular campaign policies.

The technical term for this freezing of funds is impoundment, and Trump has long sought to weaponize it for his own agenda. During his first term, he “impounded” funds that Congress allocated to Ukraine, withholding the money as leverage to pressure President Volodymyr Zelensky into investigating Joe Biden. (This plot formed the basis of his first impeachment.) Last year, on the campaign trail, Trump promised to impound far more money “to squeeze the bloated federal bureaucracy”; the idea was also touted in Project 2025.

But there’s a flaw in this scheme: Congress forbade it in a 1974 law called the Impoundment Control Act. This measure—enacted in response to President Richard Nixon’s unprecedented abuse of impoundment—strictly limits the executive branch’s authority to withhold appropriated funds. It bars the president from ever impounding “mandatory” spending, including health care programs and Social Security, that’s appropriated indefinitely. And it requires the president to seek Congress’ permission to rescind “discretionary” spending that’s approved each year. (The commander in chief must give a reason for his request.) If Congress does not grant permission within 45 days, the executive branch must spend the money.

Less than two weeks in, and dude is already driving down Impeachment Road.

Also funny that he is doing the same thing that got him canned the first time

I know he is frustrating to deal with sometimes

But nights like these is why y'all should have a little extra patience for osh kosh bosh osh kosh bosh

At least he is a well read progressive person that actually follows politics and public policy debates

@Beruseruku Desu talking like your everyday 19-year old libertarian that just watched their first Milton Freidman doc

Mans wants to fire large swaths of people because he had to deal with some frustrating people at work
I'm not the contrarian NT wants, but I'm the one it needs right now.

So bizzare to hear Republicans sound like left wing Anti-GMO activists from the 2010s

Southern Europeans are poorer than the average American and they cannot afford highly delicious prosseced foods.

There is no magic seed oil free pasta that doesn't make you fat.

I can get behind some of RFKs stuff about that though - it's right that eating good food and not processed junk is good for you. He then goes off the rails with the anti-vax and anti-medicine stuff.

There has to be a reason why obesity is so common in the US - and I do think that part of it is the availability of cheap calorie dense foods which aren't good for you. The complex part is how that is linked to people being too busy to eat better and fresh vegetables etc being more expensive than a cheeseburger.

-I tried to argue this point to a to a friend and his wife and they were not having it.

I basically told them eating less processed food is good, but people they point to in certain countries are generally just eat less food and/or get more physical exercise, it is not magic.

And if the government wanted to fight obesity, developing their owned low cost GLP-1 agonists and making it free to anyone that wants it would make more sense. Some nebulous plan against seed oils isn't gonna do ****.

But for some strange reason some people have a major hang-up about those drugs

-Regarding RFK. Dude is like a mix of some great points and bat**** stupid stuff.

The GOP would never really let him do the good stuff. So all we have left is the bat**** stupid ****

This is my stance on RFK Jr. . He’s definitely right about some things regarding food/diet/health, it’s just that he has 3 bad takes to go along with each good take he has.

His only good takes, republicans slaughtered Michelle for.. and you got president fast food/Diet Coke

And it’s hard for me to take him seriously on health when he clearly takes vitamin S and can barely bench what I’ve seen numerous swimming of all ages, track of all ages and/or CrossFit girls/women easily do.. plus seen girls/women actually do actual push-ups and pull-ups

Plus all the weird animal stuff

The relationship between GDP and obesity is pretty strong. Richer countries have more fast food restaurants and they have more money to pay for it. Southern Europe's can't afford to door dash highly delicious foods that you can eat in large quantities without getting full. Americans can afford it.

"Supersized market economy, supersized belly: Wealthier nations have more fast food and more obesity"

every time I argue about this stuff, and Ozempic it feels like people are more interested in thinness being a high status signifier, and a display of morals, discipline and self control....

than they are concerned with improving the health of their fellow citizen.
