Oh so in Belgium he's being prosecuted for the stuff he says at his rallies.

Our guy rides that wave all the way to the presidency. :lol
Geert Wilders is Dutch, from the Netherlands. But we do have a similar law against hate speech.
It's only really applied to politicians and other highly influential individuals. If I were to go around chanting racial slurs and remove all the muslims I wouldn't be charged with anything besides disturbing the public order maybe. If a politician spews some blatant racism on the other hand, they might get prosecuted for it.
For example I went to a Alex Agnew's show with some friends last week, a well known comedian.
There were holocaust jokes, catholic church rape jokes, muslim jokes, ... In other words, anything goes and he does go there. A lot. He doesn't need to worry about prosecutions though, as he's just a comedian.
Technically you could file hate speech charges against anyone under our law but a judge will throw it out if it's not a suit against a politician, mayor, ...

Why do we not have a law like this in the US lol

@Colombia This dude Putin really is playing 3 dimensional chess right now. Wilders and a lot of the rising far right leaders on the continent are vehemently anti-Europe/EU and unabashedly pro-Russia.

Marine Le Pen was also recently discovered to have been receiving funding from a Russian bank and has praised Putin every chance she's gotten. I don't know about Wilders' electoral chances but Le Pens isn't exactly guaranteed anything at the moment, the National Front's support is limited to the smaller/more rural areas of France but who know's how things will look by May. Maybe another terror attack changes everything. If she does win power, that'd be the end of Europe/the EU as we know it.

It all feels strangely coordinated,Putin is legit on his way to pulling a kind of far right coup throughout the West...

And you have guys like Titanium Tea who refuse to acknowledge that the West is being played like a fiddle.

The new generation has forgotten WHY they built all these alliances; their grand parents and their parents have not taught them the weapons race that led to WWI, the selfish resolution of the Versailles treaty that left the Germans humiliated and open to the right-wing radicalism of the 1920s-30s and led to Hitler, Franco, and Mussolini, the withdrawal of Japan, Italy, and Germany from the Society of Nations the neglect of Germany annexing territory after territory until it was too late to find a peaceful resolution, and WWII.

I don't always speak as Daddy Style does, but it is funny that the same people who told others to adapt or die are willing to throw away stability because they can't do the same. They told the slaves to adapt; they did. They told the colonized to adapt; they did. Now it is their turn. Manufacturing is gone, pick up a book/trade and learn something that's useful for today instead of living in the past and wanting to bring the rest of us back to that time.

Yea I think folks prefer to stay in their own regional bubble instead of looking at the International implications of current events unless it's something you're genuinely interested in that kind of thing or have studied it like me :lol

With the way global events have unfolded lately, it does look like Putins Soviet Revisionist wet dream is real and here to stay. If the leaders he's backing end up in power and break up the EU permanently/Nato,he'll have a free hand at conquest in Eastern Europe to bring back Russian hegemony in that part of that he world.

Won't be surprised if he decides to "test" Nato's resolve by drumming up some pro-Russian demonstrations and conflict with authorities, ala Eastern Ukraine,in the small former soviet states like Estonia,Latvia etc who are currently Nato members.

It's no coincidence that the rising far right and occasionally extremist, movement around the West would benefit Russia tremendously instead of the "new cold war" way things looked to be heading had the traditional,neo-liberal world order held up.

It's a shame that nothing will ever come of Trump's Russian ties with a GOP controlled congress though

cuz we're ******* Americans...have da 2 live Crew case not taught you anything?

Still can't get over how the Dems have only lost the popular vote once in the last 5 general elections, yet have lost power twice the times they won it :x :x. That's no coincidence,especially with the way the electoral college has been weighted and given GOP gerrymandering that's somehow been normalized :lol :{

Something def needs to be done about that next time there's a blue majority man

These are the 2018 Midterm Senate Races. A super majority is well within reach if Democrats don't show up. It is probably impossible to take back the House.

Every liberal that complains about Trump wining, or the far right wing nonsense that is about to take place, and doesn't show up in 2 years, is a legit idiot

Are we talking about the same Belgians whose king killed millions of Congolese so that he could manufacture tires and other rubber components to European industries? Are we talking about Germany who, long the rise of the third reich, was already testing concentration camps on Southern Africans? Are we talking about France who still controls the currency of many African countries and has given itself first dibs on all of their resources in exchange for "independence"? Your world needs a good dose of reality. When you go play command and conquer in far away lands, don't be surprised when you see the survivors of your bombs knocking at your door and ask for shelter after you've reduced their livelihoods to nothing.

Adapt to the world your leaders create.
You talk like there is not blood on the hands of people in every country on earth throughout recorded history. If I felt like googling I could easily turn your logic back and say..." are we talking about the same congolese and south africans that did XYZ?"

I understand reality...its the other dudes wishing for these fantasy dream societies that are out of touch.

Adapt to your presidents words

:lol

So accurate, right down to the champagne bottles which are still uncorked.

To help many of my NTers who also have a glut of sparkling white, I suggest the following ways to use them.

Champagne Cocktail:

Scarlet letter:

French 75:

Kir Royale:

Fill up champagne flute and top with a small amount, to taste, of Kir Liqueur.

Damn I need to make a scarlet letter one day

Other dudes like you?

You see, when you choose to elect people who support economic and environmental policies that will bring instability everywhere; when you are told that these policies will result in chaos; when you are told that there is a better way but you choose not to follow it; and when you turn around and say "I can't live with the consequences of my choices,"

that's the definition of living in lalaland.

All those migrants come from areas that have been heavily exploited by western corporations with the support of western armies led by officials that we elect. The Somalian coastline is where the global trash is being dumped, and when the fishermen turn into pirates (cuz they gotta live somehow), we make movies about them and cheer when the US navy kill them. Foreign lands are commandeered to grow export crops while the locals die of hunger, and you are here wondering why they turn to either terrorism or illegal immigration.

What you want is to be able to live in a society that exploits everything, everywhere, and everyone without ever being held responsible for the outcomes of those actions. That's the fantasy.

I am shocked to see TT rationalize Leopold's exploitation of the Congolese people

Shocked I say!

I am shocked to see you back gry60s rationalization of terrorism
He's not rationalizing terrorism, he's pointing out how one side's acts of terror creates the other side to react in similar fashion.
This is why the US is considered the biggest terrorist in the world, we have invaded countries in the premise of "freedom" when we are really there for political power or resources, and as a result create collateral damage and more terrorists as a result. It's not right from both sides, but when push comes to shove, you gonna have to expect the shove back.
