***Official Political Discussion Thread***

so where we stand now: pretty clear that Russia was behind the hacks, that they were politically motivated, and that Putin was involved. what is not known is if trump or anyone in his team was involved.

next question is how will the US respond and what will the fallout be?

popcorn time

We might have to eat this L for now.

Obama has a month left. He's going to do something now on his way out, after months of inaction?

Then there's Trump, who doesn't even acknowledge that the whole thing was real. Even more depressing. Hopefully Mattis can talk some sense into him.

Obama is a better person than me when it comes to trying to help with this whole transition process. I would've said "@#$@ this, you guys are on your own. I'm out!" and just retired in some nice foreign country that is politically irrelevant to the world :lol

I think what distinguishes Obama from us is that he shows actual faith in the institution of America still.

After all he told Trump this:

“We want to make sure they feel welcome as they prepare to make this transition,” Obama said. “Most of all, I want to emphasize to you, Mr. President-elect, that we now are going to want to do everything we can to help you succeed — because if you succeed, then the country succeeds.”

I really never want to hear Obama is not American at heart, etc. I truly think he cares about this country. There's just a lot of conflict and lack of faith that us Americans have shown in this institution since the war on terrorism that has caused very slow progression or even regression in some areas.

I'm not really worried about the Trump presidency as much as Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell, because those two have been the bane of partisan politics and now are the gatekeepers to enacting policy.
Those guys are the real swamp. And they weren't eliminated because the people in their states still voted them in. These same two guys have lead to the lack of progressive policies being implemented and are poised to create more dysfunction in the government. :{

[thread="509493"]All the "real Americans" and proud "patriots" I know have been pretty silent on our countries sovereignty being infringed upon with a foreign power interfering in our election...wonder why[/thread]
They hate Democrats and liberals more than the Russians

You would think the IRS would attempt to leak something like that since they got their budget cut by the majority Republican congress
But they still stand by their principles.

it'd be a terrible thing to do and would definitely get a huge amount of backlash but i'd still like to see his tax returns

Because the right people at the IRS have integrity.

Government agencies like the IRS should not be partisan.

I want to win, but not like the GOP does

Its not even about winning now.

If he has some shaky things going on in his taxes, they have to tell the american people.

Im going to assume his taxes must not be so damning because I hope the safety of this nation would trump some "principles"

We're probably never get his tax returns sadly.
Edit:
Had a look on r/the_donald and looks like they're back to birtherism :{
Guess their feelings got hurt in today's press conference

What would be shaky enough to justify weaponizing the IRS in that fashion?

It is bizzare to me how willing republicans are to debase themselves in pursuit of the goal of punishing poor people

like old rich guys coming out retirement to take healthcare away from poor people. why?

you need your taxes lowered that bad?:{

relax and enjoy your billions.

I disagree that he held back, he let out his true feelings know about Russia and let the Republicans know that they are getting further and further away from their past ideology at the expense of the country
Hell he even called out the mainstream media.
If you were expecting him to attack Trump, he's been on record since the election ended that he's willing to help out the guy as long as Trump maintains the promise that he's wiling to help out the country. However, that remains to be seen until he officially steps into the office.

Man of course Trump knew about the hacking. Paul Manafort was one of his campaign managers. I'd be more surprised if he wasn't. He had to rig the election to win it

yup i definitely think he had knowledge of it, but there needs to be evidence to prove it.

if the IRS can't leak his tax returns, can't China hack them for us? 8o

Ultimately, the hacks didn't affect the voting process. It did change perception of Hillary, but there's no evidence that Russia hacked the votes. Half of America played themselves for voting for a kleptocrat though.

Because they are all a bunch of easily persuaded hypocrites. When a police officer kills a black man, they get all up in arms about "Blue Lives Matter". White guy kills a cop (like in Iowa before the last debate), not a single word. The same party of conservative morals and values has no issue electing a guy that likes to brag about grabbing *****. The same party which has railed against Russia for decades, has now decided that Russia is not that bad despite nothing about Russia changing. It is actually kind of comical

Goldman Sachs just settled for 56 million for rigging the interest rates against the people. They were 1 of a group of entities who all settled totalling more than 300 million. But focusing on Goldman Sachs, who was deemed DETESTABLE by "the working man" just last year... u couldnt even mention goldman sachs to an american without getting a

face. but now... since trump put their ceo as the head of small business in the us... not a peep. This man lead the operation to rig interest rates to look higher than they were to get more money from the working citizen..... and is now in control of the direction the US takes small businesses in. And not...a...peep.

When trump settled last month for trump university.... not....a....peep.

this is about to be a nightmare. Because trumps supporters are doing something dangerous. Not only do they support that buffoon, but they refuse to call out any wrong doing that they witness by him. America is in a lot of trouble, if whenever our leader does something wrong, or stupid, we turn the other cheek and ignore it. If nobdy checks him for it.... we're literally f****d. And that is exactly whats happening.

Well at least half of America agrees with you

Just gotta hope everything turns out better than expected.
