back in 2009 after auto bailout was filled out, Obama sat with representatives of automobile manufacturers domestic & foreign to carve out regulations that would drastically increase da national CAFE MPG targets from da early 90's of 25 MPG standard to something ridiculously high of 54.5 MPG.

it essentially gives da government da power to tell automakers what kinda cars to make, regardless of what da public actually wants at da thread of penalizing them millions of dollars for being non compliance.

under Obama's policies (which are set in be complied by 2025), Hemis along with LS/LT GMs, Coyote 5.0, V8 SUVs and other sports cars would NO LONGER exist because da government would punitively penalize any car maker who's auto fleet doesn't clear government arbitrary number of "efficiency" (make da cars we want based on our ideology)

this isn't a "make da hemi cheaper" subject, this is "keep da hemi alive from being regulated outta existence" along with adding superfluous regulations that increase da price of a new automobile by thousands of dollars.

da CAFE mandate was crafted before we knew how much oil Fracking would yield for us that makes us more oil saturated than Saudi Arabia and thinking we were at peak oil worldwide..

fast forward to today & we're making more oil now than ever.

da CAFE laws also didn't factor in consumer choice and preferences...US citizens prefer Trucks & SUV's waaaay more than cars, which made da Car Brands to insert a midterm review in 2017 (which Trump will certainly roll back) to revaluate da regulations if brands were able to comply without undue burdens.

if people aren't buying hybrids and plugins under their own volition (cuz gas prices are dirt cheap cuz of Fracking creating a world wide glut of oil) why would da Brands feel that have to continue to sell hybrids and EVs that don't sell and cost em a undue burden in production costs & R&D.

55 miles to the gallon sounds wonderful. Less stops at the gas station. Instead of naturally aspirated they can figure out other ways of keeping the car fast. My current car is a 4 banger with turbo. No complaints.
