***Official Political Discussion Thread***

So cut all the things that would make America "great" in foreigners eyes. We're about to fall so far back on international lists. The fantasy of America is about to unmasked. Welcome to the hubris that began the downfall of every empire.
Well over here we like Mattis and surprisingly, Mike Pence. But other than that the respect for the US seems to be crippled already.

Pence is a sly fox, a radical rightist in disguise waiting on his moment while the buffoon softens the blow. Don't trust him one bit.

Got into chatting with a history buff at work and he was talking about, how at one point in very distant history many centuries ago, China was the most advanced country on Earth when it came to science, technology, trade, economy, whatever. Like stuff like knowing **** about astronomy at a time when Europe thought the world was still flat and ish revolves around the Earth. Then China became a closed society and Europe, then America took the number one spot.

Now might America just be repeating history, again?

This has happened repeatedly throughout history afaik. Middle Eastern countries were the most advanced at one point and then closed off/destabilized down the line.

When xenophobic, nationalist, religious etc. etc. etc propaganda takes over and stifle innovation. It's happened before and will happen again.

Exactly, my only question is, which country will rise to the top and take over?

Germany doesn't really seem to have much of an interest in being that big "world police" kind of power, though, they've been relatively restrained and moderate in their foreign policy. They don't tend to meddle in global issues unless forced. They've been forced into a leadership role in Europe out of necessity, not their own desire imo.

China seems to have a much grander ambitions though

It's crazy how much world affairs change over time though, Germany is legit probably the "leader of the free world" right now in terms of the most powerful liberal democracy

Even if Merkel loses, her closest competitor is well liked too and pretty similar to her. Germany is an economic powerhouse too. Merkel noted a pretty large federal budget surplus for 2016.
Now that we no longer have Obeezy, Merkel seems to have filled his position of "leader of the free world" here

Really, I will have to look into that. It's def clear that if the U.S. don't get rid of Agent Naranja in 2020, we'll lost a lot of favor w/ the rest of the world ESPECIALLY if we get pulled from the free trade agreements.

a lot of brothers i know from the military that got stationed in germany all have german wives ...shhh is crazy.

so basically trump's top aide on counter-terrorism used to be part of a Nazi-aligned group from Hungary, which along with being despicable would mean his citizenship should be stripped:

http://forward.com/news/national/36...aims-top-trump-aide-sebastian-gorka-as-sworn/

Sebastian Gorka, President Trump’s top counter-terrorism adviser, is a formal member of a Hungarian far-right group that is listed by the U.S. State Department as having been “under the direction of the Nazi Government of Germany” during World War II, leaders of the organization have told the Forward.

My mother is a german and American citizen, I always wished she would have gotten my sister and me citizenship there.

The thing is, the rest of the world has noticed how we went from Bush Jr to Obama to Trump, so even after we get rid of the Orange One and vote in someone more level-headed, who's to say that after that term we won't go back to our crazy selves and vote for someone worse than Trump who is going to turn his guns towards former allies and actually pull the trigger?

From an outsider's perspective, the current structure of the US political system is too unstable to enter in long term agreements with its actors. In that way, we've already lost a lot of capital internationally.
