Conway on lifting FBI informant gag order: We should be interested 'in what this person knows'

White House adviser Kellyanne Conway responded to reports that President Trump told aides to pressure the Justice Department to allow an FBI informant to testify before Congress on Friday by saying that Trump wants the truth to be revealed.

Conway told CNN's "New Day" that the informant, who was involved in the FBI probe of corruption in the Russian energy sector during the Obama administration, should be free to speak with Congress, and that Trump was trying to expedite that process.

"He believes, as many others do, frankly, that the FBI informant should be free to say what he knows," Conway said Friday. "We should all be interested in what this person knows."

"It's not unusual for a president to weigh in," she added.

Trump and Republicans are demanding answers into a 2010 deal authorized by the Obama administration to sell a uranium mining company to Russia's atomic energy agency, Rosatom. The deal was approved by the State Department, run at the time by Hillary Clinton. Trump has frequently accused Clinton of orchestrating a crooked deal to sell uranium to Russia.

On Friday, Conway targeted Clinton and her campaign for allegedly funding the production of an unverified dossier of allegations about Trump's ties to Russia.

"Now, we are faced with the possibility - and it looks like the very real probability - the DNC [Democratic National Committee] and the Clinton campaign paid a foreign agent for information to try to smear Donald Trump," Conway said.

The FBI released the informant from his confidentiality agreement Wednesday night. Other Republicans including Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) have publicly called on the Justice Department to allow the informant to testify.

Fox News first reported that an order to release the former informant from the confidentiality agreement came from Trump himself; however, other sources told the network the decision was ultimately made by senior Justice Department officials.

"As of tonight, the Department of Justice has authorized the informant to disclose to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, as well as one member of each of their staffs, any information or documents he has concerning alleged corruption or bribery involving transactions in the uranium market, including but not limited to anything related to Vadim Mikerin, Rosatom, Tenex, Uranium One, or the Clinton Foundation," a Justice Department spokeswoman said Thursday.

And although the rise of the middle class in the Third World has been loudly celebrated, Mr Milanovic points out that a middle-class salary in emerging economies would be considered dire poverty in the West.
Lol it’s like you didn’t fully understand this point in the article
While a 34k salary is considered on the upper or middle class scale in most 3rd world countries, it would be poverty for most folks in the likes of the USA. And a majority of Americans that earn that wage obviously don’t have much resources to go improve their situation since they already dedicate a majority of their spending on bills. It could be even worse if they have health problems.

You would rather put your head in the sand of the income inequality problem in the US and be like “every other 3rd world country poorer than us b, be grateful” does no favors to a problematic situation in our country. The country’s middle class has declined. China has a larger middle class than the entire US. Problems have to be fixed, not ignored.

If we're going by gdp per capita U.S isn't the highest in the world, theres other countries ranked higher i dont even think this country is in the top 5. However, I think what Ninja is saying is just 1 of Khaled's Major Keys, be grateful

You are black and you defend a man that says black people should be grateful for the level of racism they face in America. Even during the Jim Crow Era

You are either a troll, or morally bankrupt.

Which one is it?

Since you can use religious scripture to justify just about anything, I wonder how mr. Sessions and his ilk would feel if a muslim business owner tried to deny them entry or service on the basis of christians being non-believer infidels or something. Surely they will say "well that's your right to religious freedom sir" and walk back out. >D
If "religious freedom" has to equate to discriminatory practices based solely off some scripture that can be twisted in just about every direction, perhaps the problem is with that religious zealotry.

-yeah, no way we can compete with da economic prosperity of a country coming out of 3rd world conditions, vs da US being at a cruising altitude. but long run? we got da legs.

-yes, major key alert.

I'm not black and never claimed to be, even if I was it wouldn't be relevant to what you're trying to fish for here in this current point all Ninja is saying is what Khaled been preaching this whole time is to be grateful

aye Xennial Xennial , da year is da early 1900's on planet Earth...you rather be fighting for da right to vote and equal civil rights in America or still be basically chattel in da Islamic slave trade, no different than someone owning a camel in da Sahara? 8o

Sorry, I confused you for someone else.

But now it makes more sense why dudes racist comments don't seem that bad to you. But I have the answer to my previous question anyway. Both

According to this logic, apparently da Republic of Congo should have also been grateful that Belgium granted them a tiny bit more rights after fully annexing the country in 1908. After king Leopold II seized control of the "Congo Free State" territory in 1885, resulting in countless atrocities that honestly pretty much amount to genocide. But they got a few new rights in 1908 though so they should be grateful. >D

Disgusting

what does this tripe have to with da original point that during jim crow era, da United States was arguably still da best place in da world to be black considering many parts of da world still heavily practiced slavery and vast genocide.

doesn't really take a rocket scientist to get da point. :lol

I understood what you were trying to say but I think for most of them they're saying they wouldn't want to be in either situation since both are bad, kinda like they wouldn't want either option of being punched in the faced or stabbed

aye, if i had to pick between getting punched or stabbed ill Elect catching a jab any day of da week

if you HAD to choose, da answer between Jim Crow America & da rest of da worlds attrocities is EASY...

So folks should just be content because they get to live in good ol America regardless of racism, regardless of discrimination, regardless of police brutality, regardless of voting rights, regardless of adequate access to healthcare, etc... Is that your point?

So you're more than happy making 34K a year because that's more money than what an average Sudanese farmer makes? What kinda of narrow minded bull is that?

Another dude who I have never seen before was banned from the Vegas thread for his offensive rhetoric, so why is it okay for someone to do the same in here time and time again? The knockout game? Really?

Everyone just needs to start reporting any post where this guy tries to get slick. The content of his posts seems to be ignored, so maybe if the staff is inundated with reports they'll take notice.

Is this kind of contract provision even legal?
Whitefish Energy contract bars government from auditing deal
http://thehill.com/homenews/adminis...y-contract-bars-government-from-auditing-deal
A deal reached between the government and a small Montana energy company located in Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke's hometown prohibits the government from reviewing labor costs or profits related to the company's relief efforts in Puerto Rico, according to a leaked copy of the contract.

A copy of the deal obtained by reporter Ken Klippenstein reveals that the government isn't allowed to "audit or review the cost and profit elements" under the agreement, allowing the company greater discretion and secrecy for how it spends the $300 million to restore power to the island. Puerto Rico is rebuilding after two major hurricanes wiped out most of the island's electrical grid.

Whitefish has been the target of heavy criticism over questions as to why the small company, which only had two full-time employees when the storm struck, was selected for such a lucrative government contract to help clean up the island.

Two House committees and a federal watchdog have all opened investigations into the deal. San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz has called for the deal to be voided and investigated after representatives for the company feuded with her on Twitter and asked her if she wanted them to stop working.

“We’ve got 44 linemen rebuilding power lines in your city & 40 more men just arrived. Do you want us to send them back or keep working?” Whitefish Energy tweeted to the mayor Wednesday.

“They are threatening not to do their job which frankly is quite irregular for a company hired to the work for the public sector,” she tweeted in response.

“The contract should be voided right away and a proper process which is clear, transparent, legal, moral and ethical should take place," Cruz added in comments to Yahoo News.

Republicans on the House Natural Resources Committee have also raised questions about the scope of the deal.

“The size and terms of the contract, as well as the circumstances surrounding the contract’s formation, raise questions regarding PREPA’s standard contract awarding procedures,” Reps. Rob Bishop (R-Utah) and Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) wrote Thursday.

Whitefish said Thursday that it welcomes the investigations.

"Whitefish Energy appreciates the efforts of the committees to gather information so that they have confidence in the overall process to support the people of Puerto Rico as well Whitefish Energy’s capabilities and commitment to deliver on the contract to help restore power and a sense of normalcy for the people of Puerto Rico," it said.
