Would you prefer to be getting no tax cut/relief? This is a serious question. Chances are, your tax liability will decrease. If you invest, you will see higher gains. Corporations will likely hire more and increase wages. Executives will likely net more. I am trying to understand the negative for everyday Americans.

wth is going on in the senate right now?

any chance the tax bill doesn't pass?

anyone else lame as me staying up to watch this?

It’ll pass. Once crocker and Collins said yes it was done unless 2 republicans died the last 2 days or were seriously hospitalized a la McCain.

They are fake moderates/fake deficiet hawks. Oh well since it’s going to pass I’ll enjoy my ballooning 401k, unlike 70% of trump voters who don’t have one (thanks Dony, just remember your voters won’t be saved by $500 in tax savings) and my ballooning salary and bonus for all the tax consulting. Funny thing is the tax law is just as complicated as was before except now we have a chance to find exploits. This will be a fun 2 years. So so much for simplification.

looks like it passed the Senate.

thanks for relieving my tax "burden." I was SOOOOO burdened and I am SOOOO happy to get enough tax "relief" every month that now I can afford a higher tier of Comcast internet.

THANK YOU CONGRESS! THANK YOU TRUMP! THANK YOU DWALK!
:rollin

I just hate how it’ll be signed in Q4 which means we have to account for it during provision time. Annoying as **** because we have to tie things down more accurately than usual and by end of January to boot. January hours are going to blow.

I already knew once the new year starts, my free time will be almost down to zero.
Probably gonna check into NT for like a couple minutes each week in the upcoming four months

Susan Collins is a piece of ****.

She demanded that the stimulus be rolled back because of concerns over the deficit. She was open to the ACA until McConnell told her to fall in line, then she goes onto act like she actually care about people having insurance.

Now tonight, the GOP straight up pull the deal she claimed she negotiated and she went along with it anyway.

**** her. And **** Angus King for endorsing her over the Dem last time around.

I feel bad for the unfortunate people who voted against this essentially but will feel the full brunt effect of it all. Mainly when their insurance is dropped or their premiums jump 70% the first year.

But to the trump supporters. Go jump in a ditch and I hope your family becomes heroin addicts after abusing your pain killers.

Krugman with the ether

To show you how gerrymandering ****s over the left, if you total all the votes for Virginia House candidates, the Dems won by 10 points.

They still needed a one vote win in a recount to get to a 50-50 split in representatives.

How the **** is this fair?

GOP answer: Because it benefits us.

Screw the Dems for all the times they indulged in gerrymandering too, but the GOP is on another level.

Someone posted a similar map of Alabama where, despite low GOP turnout and a surge in Dem/black turnout, the Dems only won a majority in one of Alabama's Congressional districts. Luckily for Dems, the special election was a State wide race but it shows how powerful gerrymandering your US House districts can be.

At least we have a pretty readily available remedy for this problem. We have a wave in 2018 and 2020 in State races and we'll get to Gerrymander right back. Even just fairly drawn, mostly non partisan redistricting would yield Democratic majorities in the US House of Representatives.

My COMRADE! REJOICE even more once it's realized that without NET NEUTRALITY our gracious ISP Comcast will request MORE of our tax relief to make their services BETTER and by better I mean ACCESSABLE. High tier internet is for LIBRAL ELITES. Us TRUE MERICANS don't need fancy high tier internets, we have the COAL POWER and the BEST coal service provider around in COALCAST. First thing I'm doing with my extra 20 rubles dollars a month from the BEST TAX BURDEN RELIEF IN HISTORY is buying some grade-A LIBBIE TEARS to wash down the snowflake flavored Honker Burger :nthat:

When all you use the Internets for is checking survivalblog.com, who cares about Net Neutrality, as long as repealing it makes hipster, snowflake milleniel, welfare queens sad, that's all I care about. Let the coalcast cable commence.

There is something perversely gratifying about seeing so many economic winners of Trump's policies being people who did not vote for him. During the campaign, especially the primaries, Donald Trump promised socialism for low income whites. Instead those low income whites (who make up part of his vast ,white coalition) are getting the same ole' Wall Street Journal Editorial Page economics which has been applied, with widely varying degrees of intensity, for four decades.

Of Course, when you promote laissez-faire economics, you help people who already have a good deal of financial and social/career capital and with most of the wage gains since 2009 going to college educated workers in major metropolitan areas, all the rural and exoburban and rust belt and Appalachian folks just gave "pajama boy" a raise. Congrats, Trump fans (insert DJ Khaled gif right here)

It's funny because one of my brothers is a venture capitalist and he is a socialist and is of the mindset of "alright, I didn't vote for any of this but I might as well plunder as much as I can from late capitalism while I can and while they are giving me the green light."

So to you, Biggie, get that money and expose this tax "reform" as the sham that it is all at the same time. You were not for any of this but like Clay Davis said, it doesn't matter anymore when they're just giving money away.

^ while I don’t disagree with that article I’m bemused by the fact that this aspect of this administration is what they chose to write about.

Maybe I’m being unfair and haven’t seen similar articles berating racism and sexism and everything else - but I don’t think so.

Can't blame the fox for eating all the chickens when the farmer leaves the henhouse door open...

This is what they voted for.

I got christian family with whom I have stopped talking politics because all they base their political arguments on is the bible (that they don't seem to know that well anyway because they love to ignore the historical context in which it was written).

Anytime I explained the economic downsides of voting Republican, all they had to say was "but the gays! But abortion." It pisses me off even more because the reason they - we - are here is because we were able to witness the economic plunder of our country (thanks to the IMF austerity and privatization policies) and escape it, and they are supporting people who want to implement the same policies that kill babies, starve people, destroy economic stability, and create economic migrants.
