***Official Political Discussion Thread***

I can't rock with the thought of voting for someone you don't like and don't believe in at all just so someone else you don't like doesn't win. I get it but I just don't like it.

But it is what it is.
For me, it's not about voting against someone, but voting with the candidate that more closely represents my beliefs and ideals.

There is still a lot at stake for everyone on both sides, even if your candidate didn't win.

Sidenote: My candidate didn't win.

Fixed.

I thought Ninja was from da heights?

After questioning if Hillary was going to win New York last night it's hard to say if he's really from New York or whether or not he represents the city anymore. I always said if a guy doesn't know what's going on in his home state...is he really from the home state.

That's not to say that young ninja can't redeem himself. He's just going to have to really go above and beyond to proves he's from New York.......that's if he's really from New York of course. The jury is out.

Fams i never doubted da clinton machine in NY..pipe down :lol

In a perfect universe, Hillary wins the nomination, Trump wins the nomination. Trump gets screwed at the convention, runs as a third party. Bernie says 'f it I'm 74 years old' rans as well. Bernie wins with the vote being split 4 ways, and Bernie gets 33 percent of the general. A man can dream can't he?....

This scares me a bit. Bernie would take votes from Hillary. Giving Trump a better shot at winning the election.

Neither are good for black and Latinos.

As far as Hillary goes, what are you basing this off of?

This a Serious question ?

Yes. In the year 2016, what makes her not good, aka "bad" for blacks/latinos?

Not good is bad, correct? Explain to me why she's bad for minorities in 2016.

Have you heard her radio commercials in NY? She is using the mothers/wives of Trayvon, Jordan etc because they were lost to gun violence. Her platform is Bernie voted against harder background checks. But those guys died at the hands of police. Sounds very All lives matter. Deterring from the actual issues to push her own agenda while using black people.

I'm not in NYC, so no I haven't heard the ads.

I'm not sure I'm following what you're saying here though. Trayvon and Jordan Davis didn't get killed by cops.

All that said, so a radio ad makes you believe she isn't good for minorities?

 Good answer.

Explain it man....if you can say it, back it up with facts and sound logic.

Or if you just don't like her (I don't really like her, either), just say that.  But saying she isn't good for blacks/latinos without providing some sort of reasoning isn't really cool IMO.

What about her 2016 campaign makes you think that as president, she wouldn't be good for minorities?  And to take it further, what about Bernie's campaign makes him better in that regard?

I don't trust her. I'm the type of person where I respect where you stand, even if I don't agree w/ it. I don't know where she stands, almost as if she blows the way the wind blows. I get that that's politics but have some pride in who you are as a person.

For the most part, I know where Trump and Bernie stand, but as far as Raph and Hillary, I don't, and the fact that they could potentially be in charge of the country that I call home is a problem for me.

Does that answer your question?

Yes, that answers my question.  Seems like a pretty big leap in logic though.

I completely get not trusting her.  But I'm baffled as to how that translates to she's not good for minorities.  Not seeing how those 2 things equate, but hey...everyone is entitled to their opinion regardless of whether or not it makes sense.

Well in all actuality, none of them are. We don't have the financial power to influence politicians. Sure we have a strong vote but after that, it's like "who?" :{

The whole US population is unreliable when it comes to voting, not just Bernie Supporters or Millennials. Thats by design.

Millennials helped vote in Obama, over the republican, nominee into TWO terms. The generations before voted Bush in TWICE lol.

We don't know what will happen during the midterm elections. The idea of Millennials not showing up is all speculation.

Bernie supporters staying home if Hillary's the nominee

The first priority is to stop Trump from becoming president. Doesn't matter how much you dislike Hillary.

I'm sure Bernie himself will eventually tell his supporters to vote for Hillary to stop Trump.

:rollin :rollin @ "perfect universe" That sounds like a cluster****. All this contested convention talk got ppl indulging in to long shot scenarios.

In a perfect universe for Bernie supporters he would've just won the Dem. nomination and easily win the general election. That's it :lol Maybe Trump also suffers some illness from all that sleep deprivation.

Is that any different than Bernie using Garner's sister to say Clinton hasn't been around for black ppl in NY and that Bernie will be the guy to enact change on a local level when it comes to jobs and the treatment of the black community by the NYPD?

I haven't heard those radio commercials but I've seen the ones for Clinton using those ppl and Bernie's. They're both tasteless. I happened to find Bernie's one a bit more offensive cuz Garner's sister was a straight up mouth piece to prop up Bernie and trash Hillary.

I can partially agree with this statement. I hated both radio commercials they ran in NY.

Bernie's ad was Spike lee talking saying he did the march on Washington and stood up about a riot in Chicago or something back in the day, nothing about policy or what his plans are as president. I'm suppose to vote for him cuz he went to a civil rights march ? Sounds reasonable...

Thing is why I prefer Bernie or her, Bernie will be himself, he's not shucking and jiving for the black vote. If u ask Bernie about hip hop he's tells you he isn't really familar, meanwhile Hilary is talking. About hot sauce in her bag and dabbing, don't culture appropriate or act like you understand what black mothers are dealing with to get the black vote

I don't know why some things are being seen as shucking and jiving or pandering when we know there's backlash if she doesn't do certain things. A lot of that interview with the Breakfast club shows her reasoning why you'll see her dabbing or dancing in da heights. When politicians are asked to do these things and don't they're seen as stiff robotic no personality having unlikable ppl.

So when asked to dance she says why not. It's the same thing with all 5 candidates eating the states signature foods in every damn state they go. All of them do that but that's become the accepted shucking and jiving I guess. Bernie and Trump out here doing it. Hillary simply says why not when encouraged to dance. **** is probably one of the easier and more fun things she gets to do. It's the same thing with why she agreed to do that corny as colored ppl time joke with De Blasio. She's just trying to connect with the ppl in different ways, specifically certain demographics. If you think she's completely disingenuous with that, well that's okay. **** aint damaging and is forgettable.

As far as the hot sauce goes though, I'd think ppl would like to be on the side of the facts with this one. She's been rocking with hot sauce since '92. She likes it and believes it's good for her health wise. She had the white house fully stocked with all sorts of hot sauce for 8 years been sticking with it for over 20 years now :lol Yall just gonna have to accept that she's not pandering you just judged a book by it's cover and the truth is she does something a lot of black ppl do. That aint culture appropriation.

The most important thing is pretending to know how other black mothers feel and I fully agree there and she's had her troubles bringing up all lives matters but she's also admitted she doesn't know how it feels to be black and therefore not a black mother either but she gets a better idea of it and what she should be fighting for and endorsing by spending more time with the ppl and leaders of the black community. That's something that should be continued to be done if we're talking about the black vote.

As far as Bernie, he should've tried a whole lot harder to show he tried to get a better understanding of the issues the black community wants addressed or thoroughly explain why his policies would greatly benefit the black community. The way I see it Bernie's whole movement was capitalizing on things like the occupy wall street wave where he's talking about breaking down the status quo and building up what's beneficial for everybody. Sounds great but some ppl think you can take the system as is and change certain things to make benefit more ppl

Too many pundits and voters liken politics to sports way too often. In sports, we have a zero-sum contest with a definitive winner and a loser. Democrats buy into this notion even more than Republicans. Republicans, especially hardcore conservatives, understand the long game. I disagree with their ends but I have to marvel at their means.

American Conservatives always seem to lose and then turn their defeat into a win later on. From the 1930's to the early 1970's, Conservatism seemed to be dead, we had Democratic Presidents or very moderate Republicans and this period of our History saw incomplete but not insignificant legislation and court cases that advanced economic justice, civil rights, women's rights, rights for criminal defendants and even rights for the environment.

Some how, we are here in 2016 and so many of those advances have been turned back by movement conservatives. The voting rights act has been gutted, States suppress minority votes, the Economy is wildly unequal and rigged, Republicans control the House and most State governments, law enforcement is still militarized and abortion is de facto illegal in many States. If NT was around in 1973-74, every progressive would celebrate and would say, in the wake of Roe v. Wade, "that's a wrap, champs."

The Conservatives are masters at getting triple kills from Beyond the Grave. While many of these conservative victories came in the Reagan and Bush years, they have made a great deal of "progress" in The Clinton and Obama years. The Clinton years, one can understand, the electorate was fundamentally center-right. The Obama years, however, defy conventional wisdom.

In 2008, we were told that we were all socialists now. Our Economy was to be red, our President would be black and our energy system would be Green. Crazy financial capitalism had been rebuffed, racism had been rebuffed, the seas would cease to rise and it all was confirm on night in early November. In 2010 we got the Tea Party.

In 2012, we were told that we were part of the "Coalition of the Ascendant." We were to expect legions of hip, young, diverse, sexually fluid, social media savvy urban professionals to descend from their trendy downtown loft apartments and deliver a permanent Democratic majority. Children of undocumented immigrants turned web designers would make places like Arizona and Texas into blue States in no time. This overwhelming liberal majority would make conservatives acknowledge the humanity of undocumented people and LGBTQ people. Two years later Mitch McConnell took over the Senate. one year ago, we got Trump and his Wall. This year we have State government making laws concerning who can and cannot use certain bathrooms.

I say to fellow Bernie supporters, we need to be steady and persistent and in time, we will win. This process will take a while but it will take less time if we have Democrats in the White House and Congressional majorities. So in a general election, vote for Clinton and more importantly vote all the way down the ballot and then we will do the same thing in 2018 and 2020 and we will persist.

Again, I don't see how that makes her bad for minorities. Btw, I've never implied she's good for minorities. She's on the same level as Bernie in that regard. He's said nothing policy-wise that makes me believe any different. They've both championed the same racial causes during this campaign season.

Like I said, if cats would just straight up say they don't like her it'd be better. I can respect that. I can't respect cats pushing a narrative that is based on gut feelings about a candidate. Saying someone would be bad for minorities is a pretty hefty accusation--at least back it up with concrete evidence based on their policies about running America.

So again, tell me how Clinton is going to make my life worse as a black man? And conversely, how would Bernie make it better?

Btw, Bern voted for the crime bill that Hillary's "super predator" comment is attached to. Not saying it makes her comment any less ridiculous and racially inflammatory. But your boy seemed to support her stance with his vote. What does that say about him??

I was at a conference full of NYC finance folks today and the overwhelming consensus is that Hillary has this locked. Even Bloomberg agreed.

Almost everyone thought that Trump would take the GOP nomination. Him winning the whole thing would be an interesting point for investing opportunities, while Hillary is seen as the status quo and as such, the market has already priced in her winning it all.

Source? Or are you just being "that guy" right now? :lol

Did anyone really think Bernie had a chance in NY? I like the guy, but some of you let your allegiance to him blind you from reality.

The city’s Board of Elections suspended the top official at its Brooklyn office without pay as they probe the mysterious purge of more than 120,000 Democratic voters from the borough rolls that wreaked havoc on Tuesday presidential primaries.

http://nypost.com/2016/04/21/board-of-elections-official-scapegoated-for-voting-mess/

If you are a registered voter but not registered Democrat or Republican, what you need to do is travel back in time to October 2015, when we warned you about the deadline to change your party affiliation. Otherwise, no vote for you.

I'd say 30% are not registered, even though they thought they were," Ruiz told us, adding that there were enough provisional ballots for these voters.

Earlier in the day, a federal judge denied a temporary restraining order filed by the group that would have opened the polls to New York Democrats claiming they were unlawfully listed as Republican or unaffiliated.

:{

Voting system is a joke. Just have it done on the internet. You can bank online but you cant vote? Makes no sense.

Let's not forget Bernie had to change to the democratic party. Essentially, his own party couldn't vote for him in NY. :lol

Today, 3 million people in the state of New York who are independents have lost their right to vote in the Democratic or Republican primary. That's wrong," Sanders said outside a polling location in New York City on Tuesday.

Sanders has performed better in open primary states, where independents -- a significant portion of his political base -- are allowed to vote.

The people that had their party affiliation wrongly changed I feel bad for, that is ridiculous.

The independents that missed the deadline not so much. If you're going to have a closed primary, you should allow folk to change their party affiliation closer to the election. But people gotta pay attention too.

I have no problem with closed primaries, and Bernie probably only has a problem with them because the hurt him.
